BOSTON - Jan Korec (Bratislava, Slovakia) earned his first career shutout in his first start of his career as No. 1 Boston College men's hockey team defeated Harvard 5-0 in the Beanpot consolation game on Monday night at TD Garden. The Eagles improved to 21-5-1 overall on the season.

Following a scoreless-first, both teams traded chances to start the second frame until the Eagles netted the game's first goal at 12:00 of the period when Gabe Perreault (Hinsdale, Ill.) finished home a rebound in the paint off of Ryan Leonard's (Amherst, Mass.) shot. The Eagles extended their lead at 19:06 of the period when Cutter Gauthier (Scottsdale, Ariz.) found Oskar Jellvik (Taby, Sweden) in the slot and Jellvik one-timed it past the Harvard netminder. BC added to its lead 15 seconds later off of a Leonard goal from the left circle. The Eagles outshot Harvard 22-6 in the second period.

BC took a 4-0 lead at 7:34 of the third period when Eamon Powell's (Marcellus, N.Y.) shot from the right circle beat the Harvard goalie blocker side. The Eagles added a fifth goal from Will Smith (Lexington, Mass.) at 15:22 of the final frame.

Korec finished with 19 saves, while Derek Mullahy of Harvard stopped 27 shots.
