Northeastern, UConn Skate to 2-2 Draw; Northeastern Earns Extra Point in Shootout

BOSTON, Mass. - The No. 13 Northeastern women's hockey team tied with the No. 11 Connecticut Huskies, 2-2, and won the shootout, 1-0, for the extra Hockey East point on Friday night at Matthews Arena.

- Three minutes and 33 seconds into the game, junior Taze Thompson put Northeastern ahead 1-0. Thompson buried a rebound from freshman Allie Lalonde after sophomore Holly Abela won the puck for the Huskies.

- In the second, sophomore Mia Langlois potted her third goal of the season to extend the NU lead to 2-0. Langlois' rocket was assisted by sophomore Ella Blackmore and graduate student Megan Carter. Midway through the second, Connecticut struck to cut its deficit to 2-1.

- In the third frame, UConn tied the game at 2-2 with a goal from Ainsley Svetek. The two sides were unable to find the back of the net for the rest of regulation and the 3-on-3 overtime. The game officially ended in a 2-2 tie before heading to the shootout to decide the extra Hockey East point.

- In the shootout, graduate student Peyton Anderson scored the lone Husky goal and fifth year Gwyneth Philips turned away all three UConn bids to secure the extra league point. Philips finished her night with 27 saves.

Northeastern will next host Maine on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Matthews Arena.
