STORRS, Conn. - The No. 11 ranked UConn women's ice hockey team skated to a tie against Vermont at Toscano Family Ice Forum Saturday night. The Huskies won in the shootout. Junior goaltender Tia Chan finished with 18 saves on the night.

In the first, both teams traded shots on goal to get the period started. The Huskies finished the first with five shots on target to Vermont's three. A minute left in the period, UConn headed to the penalty kill on a hooking call. The power play would carry over into the second and the score stayed at zero in the first.

The Huskies would kill the penalty a minute into the second period. The women then earned themselves a power play on a five-minute major penalty for hitting from behind. Vermont would go on to kill the penalty. The Huskies outshot the Catamounts by two shots on goal with nine shots through two periods. The score stayed at zero after the second.

The Huskies would get close scoring chances starting out in the third. UConn would head to its second power play on a cross checking penalty, but again would expire without execution. The women tallied six more shots on target to total 18 to Vermont's 15.

UConn would head into overtime and finish out the extra time with one more shot than the Catamounts but could not get the breakaway. No score in overtime would result in a shootout. Freshman forward Ashley Allard hit the winning shot.
