STORRS, Conn. - The No. 11 ranked UConn women's ice hockey team upended Vermont 3-0 for the eighth shutout of the season and the sixth-straight victory Friday night. Senior forward Jada Habisch led the way for the Huskies with two goals.

Junior goaltender Tia Chan also earned her fifth shutout of the season.

In the first, the Huskies kept the pace even with the Catamounts to begin the period. Then, Vermont was called for a cross checking penalty and UConn executed seconds after. Habisch then took the puck from out of UConn's zone and skated down ice going coast-to-coast and slipping the puck by the goaltender stick side for the opening goal. The Huskies tallied nine shots on goal to Vermont's six. UConn kept the 1-0 score at the end of the first.

UConn carried out an aggressive offense in the second searching for the two-goal lead. The Huskies earned themselves another power play on a cross checking call, but the women killed the penalty. Soon after, UConn came back with a strong attack breaking open Vermont's defensive line. From behind goal and quickly swiveling to the front of the net, sophomore forward Kyle Josifovic sent a darting pass to junior defender Ava Rinker as Rinker found the back of the net in the top right shelf. Then, two Husky players would head to the box for hooking and tripping and would be on the 4 on 3 disadvantage. However, UConn killed both penalties. UConn finished the period 2-0.

Much of the same offense came in the third period for UConn. At 1:18 in the period, UConn tacked on another goal. As freshman defender Maya Serdachney skated around goal in Vermont's zone, junior forward Riley Grimley collected the puck and threaded the needle to find an open Habisch for the easy knock to make it 3-0.
