Box Score - Highlights

BOSTON, Mass. - The Boston University women's ice hockey team got goals from six different players and put together a thorough effort from start to finish in a 6-1 victory over Vermont in the opener of a weekend series at Walter Brown Arena on Friday evening.

Sophomore Clara Yuhn led the way with a goal and two assists while graduate student Nadia Mattivi and sophomore Brooke Disher collected two assists apiece. Seniors Lacey Martin and Catherine Foulem, juniors Ani FitzGerald and Maggie Hanzel and sophomore Sydney Healey all found the back of the net in to push the Terriers ahead of the Catamounts in the Hockey East standings.

Junior Callie Shanahan stopped the first 14 shots she faced before Vermont scored on the last shot of the game to spoil the shutout bid.

BU moves to an even 10-10-3 overall and 8-8-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- FitzGerald got things started just over two minutes into the contest will an impressive individual effort as she stole the puck at the top of the right circle before skating to the dot and firing a shot past UVM netminder Jessie McPherson at the 2:18 mark.

- Foulem teamed up with freshman Alex Law for a well-executed rush to push the lead to 2-0 as Law moved the puck through the neutral zone and then dropped it off for Foulem at the top of slot before the senior created space and converted high to the blocker side with 3:15 left in the first.

- The first power play of the game came with 10.5 seconds left in the opening frame but that was enough time for the Terriers to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

- A shot by Mattivi from the center point was tipped by Yuhn and the puck went off the left post, then off McPherson and in with just half a second on the clock.

- BU, which held a 10-2 shot advantage after the first, continued to control play in the second and added two more goals in the middle period.

- The Terriers used another tip-in to create a 4-0 cushion as Healey got a piece of a Mattivi offering for her seventh goal of the season at 7:39 of the second.

- The forward line of Ella Huntley, Martin and Yuhn put together a stellar effort, disrupting a UVM breakout before some slick passing resulted in a wide-open Martin at the left post for a 5-0 lead with 3:40 remaining in the second.

- Hanzel became the sixth goal-scorer of the evening when her left-point bid went off the left post and in 6:58 into the third.

- Lara Beecher scored for UVM in the final minute to prevent the shutout.
