STORRS, Conn. - The No. 11 ranked UConn women's ice hockey team defeated Maine 3-1 at Toscano Family Ice Forum Friday afternoon.

Senior forward Jada Habisch and junior forward Riley Grimley both secured two points with a goal and an assist each. Also, junior goaltender Tia Chan only allowed one goal on 20 shots on target.

In the first, the Huskies got things going right out of the gate two minutes into the period. Senior Kathryn Stockdale took a rip at goal as the Maine goaltender could not hold on to it which then led to junior forward Brianna Ware rushing in for the attack with the quick and easy tap in for the opening goal. With seven minutes to go in the period, UConn tacked on another goal from a slick connection starting with Grimley. Grimley on the one-time directed the puck to first year Ashley Allard to then find the open Habisch in front of goal. The Huskies made it 2-0. Then, the Black Bears countered with a goal of their own with four minutes to go in the first. Maine forward Raegan Wurm got on top of one to cut the UConn lead to one. The Huskies finished the first outshooting the Black Bears with seven shots on target to Maine's four. The score stayed at 2-1 after the first.

Both teams carried out a strong defensive line throughout the second period. The Huskies would get their first power play on a tripping call, but Maine would go on to kill the penalty. UConn applied pressure on the Maine defense, tallying six shots on goal in the period, however the score remained 2-1 after the second.

To begin the third, the Huskies got off four shots on target early in the period. Then, with four minutes left in the game, another scoring chance opened for the Huskies. As graduate student Claire Peterson skated down ice, a sliding Habisch came into view. Habisch launched one at net and with the ricochet Grimley picked it up and rolled in the third goal on the day. UConn rounded out the game with 21 shots at net. The final score was 3-1.
