BOSTON - Freshman goaltender Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made 30 saves to lead the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team to Friday night's 4-1 victory against Boston University at Walter Brown Arena.

Blair made 10 saves all three periods to finish with 30 stops.

Brooke Hammer (Commerce Township, Mich.) and Chavonne Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario) led UNH's offense with a goal and an assist. Danika Botterill (Portage La Prairie, Manitoba) and Sadie Makokis (St. Albert, Alberta) scored UNH's other goals.

The Wildcats blocked 24 shot attempts led by Charli Kettyle (Perth, Ontario) with five.

BU goalie Callie Shanahan made 12 saves and Luisa Welcke netted the Terriers' goal.

UNH improved to 10-10-1 overall, 7-6-1 in Hockey East and 6-3-0 on the road. BU is now 9-9-2, 7-7-1.

FIRST PERIOD

- UNH led 2-0 through 20 minutes despite the home team's 10-7 shot advantage.

- Hammer struck first at 6:16 when, from the top of the crease, she deposited a rebound into the open net. Rae Breton (Brighton, Ontario), with the initial shot from the right point, and Kettyle were credited with assists.

- Truter's goal extended the lead to 2-0 at 10:51. Alone on the forecheck, an attempted BU outlet pass ricocheted off Truter's skate toward the net. The puck then caromed off a BU defender into the cage.


SECOND PERIOD

- New Hampshire was also outshot in the second period, 10-6, but once again outscored BU 2-0 to extend the lead to 4-0 through 40 minutes.

- UNH converted another strong forecheck into a 3-0 lead at 7:05. Truter poked the puck free in the right circle and Tamara Thierus sent a pass to the front of the net, where Botterill chipped the puck into the cage.

- Makokis started and finished a rush to give the Wildcats at 4-0 lead at 10:16. Her outlet pass from the defensive zone was advanced by Hammer to Mikah Baptiste. Baptiste carried the puck into the left circle and her centering pass to the slot was redirected into the net by Makokis.


THIRD PERIOD

- BU recorded an 11-3 shot advantage in the third period and spoiled Blair's shutout on Welcke's goal at 13:10.

- The Terriers went on their sixth power play of the game at 17:45 and they pulled Shanahan for an extra skater one minute later to create a two-skater advantage.

- UNH's penalty kill did not allow a shot the rest of the way, however, to preserve the three-goal advantage.


GAME NOTEBOOK

- Boston University finished the game with a 31-16 shot advantage.

- New Hampshire was credited with 24 blocks. BU had eight.

- UNH's penalty kill was a perfect 6-for-6 and BU did not allow a power-play goal on four UNH opportunities.
