Maine Falls To Colgate, 8-2, In The Battle At The Burgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team was defeated by #4 Colgate in their first game of the 'Battle at the Burgh' by a score of 8 to 2.

After the #4 Colgate Raiders took an early lead netting three even-strength goals in the first period, Maine responded with two quick goals in the second period. Goal one was scored by Rahel Enzler on the power play, with Ava Stevenson and Sophia Johnson tallying assists. A minute and a half later, Ann-Frederique Guay shelfed Maine's second goal on a quick breakaway opportunity. Ida Kuoppala and Elise Morphy earned assists.

Penalty trouble against Maine allowed for Colgate to score two power play goals, one at the end of the second period and one early in the third period to widen the lead.

The Raiders popped in three more goals throughout the third period to secure an 8-2 win. The final goal came at the 0.2-second mark left in the game.

Freshman netminder Juila Bachetti made 37 saves for the Black Bears.

Maine will play at 2 PM Saturday, December 30 against Bemidji State or Robert Morris for the third-place game of the tournament at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.
