Box Score - Highlights

DURHAM - Shea Verrier (Reading, Mass.) and Chavonne Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario) both scored a goal but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team lost 4-2 to Brown University on Sunday afternoon at the Whittemore Center Key Auto Group Complex.

UNH jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Verrier and Truter 3:02 apart in the first period.

Freshman goalie Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made 20 saves on 23 shots.

Brown was led offensively by Ava DeCoste (goal, assist) and India McDadi (two assists). DeCoste, Maya Mangiafico and Margot Norehad scored third-period goals to complete the Bears' comeback. Kaley Doyle made 21 saves on 23 shots to record the win.

UNH now has an overall record of 9-9-1 and Brown is 6-9-1.

FIRST PERIOD

- The Wildcats recorded a 10-6 shot advantage and outscored the Bears 2-1.

- Blair kept the game scoreless stopping McDadi's breakaway about halfway through the period.

- Verrier gave UNH the lead at 14:28 on a net-front scramble started by a Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario) wrap around attempt.

- Truter doubled the lead at 17:31 when she skated down the left side boards and took a shot from the bottom of the circle. The shot hit Doyle's left shoulder but the puck squeezed past her and across the line for the goal.

- Freshman Julia Cabral (Lee, N.H.) and senior Brianna Legros (New Liskeard, Ontario), who made the outlet pass from the defensive zone, were credited with the assists.

- Brown was quick to answer as Jade Iginla cut the lead in half, 2-1, at 18:42.


SECOND PERIOD

- The second period was scoreless with UNH outshooting Brown 9-5.

- UNH got into penalty trouble with three penalties in a 2:06 span. Brown took a penalty as well, so UNH was only down to three skaters for 45 seconds. The Wildcats' penalty kill held strong and didn't allow a goal as Blair turned away the lone shot on goal during that stretch.

- Brown was close to leveling the score in the last minute as McDadi struck the iron on a shot from the left circle.


THIRD PERIOD

- The visitors outscored New Hampshire 3-0 in the final frame on the strength of a 13-4 shot advantage.

- Brown evened the score, 2-2, 16 seconds into the period on a goal by DeCoste.

- In the fifth minute, UNH had two shots go through the crease wide towards the end of their power play but couldn't convert on the scramble.

- Following that penalty kill, Brown took the 3-2 lead on a tip-in goal from Mangiafico.

- Brown sealed the win with an empty-netter from Norehad with 28 seconds remaining.

- Brown recorded a 24-23 shot advantage and 27-20 edge in the faceoff circle.

- UNH was credited with 17 block shots and Brown had 13 blocks.

- Cabral recorded both her first career assist and point.

- Charli Kettyle (Perth, Ontario) led all skaters with four blocked shots

- Legros and Kyla Bent (Halifax, Nova Scotia) blocked three shots apiece.

- Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ontario) led the team in faceoff wins with six wins and only two losses for a .750 win percentage.

- Verrier and Truter are both now tied for second on the team with five goals.

- Joudikis recorded an assist as she leads the team in both assists (eight) and points (16).
