Box Score - Highlights

BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore Luisa Welcke scored a late game-winner on the power play to lift the Boston University women's ice hockey team to a 2-1 home victory over Holy Cross on Friday evening at Walter Brown Arena.

Junior Ani FitzGerald opened the scoring just 3:14 into the game with her first goal as a Terrier and the 1-0 score stood until midway through the third when Holy Cross got an equalizer.

Welcke buried a rebound with 4:47 to play for her second goal of the season and the Terriers held on for the 2-1 victory.

Freshman Mari Pietersen made 21 saves in goal for the Terriers, who improve to 7-8-2 overall and 5-6-1 in Hockey East play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Terriers came out firing and put 18 shots on goal in the opening period.

- In the fourth minute of play, sophomore Sydney Healey won a puck on the right boards after a wide shot by classmate Brooke Disher and got it up to FitzGerald at the right point.

- FitzGerald teed up a slapshot that got a piece of a Holy Cross defender and found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

- The Terriers killed off a pair of first-period penalties after the FitzGerald goal.

- Holy Cross threatened to score in the final minute of the first but Pietersen was up to the task with three saves in a 15-second span.

- Half of the Crusaders' 22 shots came in the second period but the Terriers were able to take the 1-0 lead into the second intermission.

- BU's shutout bid came to an end midway through the third when Madison Michals cleaned up a rebound in the low shot to make it a 1-1 contest.

- The Terriers used their third and final power-play chance of the night to pot the game-winner.

- Senior Andi Calderone set up classmate Tamara Giaquinto for a one-timer from the left circle that Holy Cross netminder Brooke Loranger stopped and the puck made its way to Welcke, who quickly stopped it before the sending it in from the right slot at the 15:13 mark.

- Holy Cross pulled Loranger with 2:11 to play for an extra attacker but the Terrier defense was exceptional, as it did not allow a shot attempt after giving up the game-tying goal.
