Burlington, VT. - The UConn men's hockey team exploded for four goals in the third period for the comeback win over Vermont. Matthew Wood scored two goals in the third period, including the game winner, while senior Ethan Haider made 27 saves for the Huskies.

After a scoreless first period, Vermont opened the scoring early in the second period. The Catamounts capitalized on a defensive miscue from the Huskies to get on the board first and take the one nothing lead. Five minutes later, another defensive turnover from the Huskies left Ryan Miotto alone in front for the goal to give Vermont the 2-0 lead. Late in the period, a Vermont penalty gave UConn the man advantage and the Huskies were able to cut into the Catamount lead heading into the third period as Samu Salminen fired the one timer for the goal.

The third period was all UConn as they exploded for four goals. Tristan Fraser kicked off the scoring as he drove to the net and flipped the puck over the Vermont netminder to tie the game. 30 seconds later, Matthew Wood found the loose puck following a shot, and put home the rebound to give UConn the lead. Following the goal, a Vermont penalty put UConn on the power play on the ensuing faceoff. On the faceoff, the Huskies collected the puck and Matthew Wood went to work, skating past the defenders before netting his second goal of the game to give UConn the two-goal lead. From there, the Huskies defense and goaltender Ethan Haider shined, shutting down the Catamounts attack. In a last effort, Vermont pulled their goaltender for an extra skater, and after a battle for the loose puck, sophomore Jake Percival scored on the empty net to seal the win for the Huskies.
