CANTON, N.Y. - The 12th-ranked St. Lawrence Saints (5-1-0) scored three second-period goals to secure a victory over the 11th-ranked Catamounts (1-2-1) team Saturday afternoon.

COACH'S QUOTE

"Tough day for us today against a very good team that played extremely well," Head Coach Jim Plumer said. "We hurt ourselves with penalties in the second period and it put us on our heels and gave them momentum. I thought we played a solid first and third period but the game was lost in the second. It was good to get a road game under our belt and we will use this experience to help us next weekend when we begin Hockey East play at Merrimack."

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- After a scoreless opening period, St. Lawrence scored 6:37 into the second frame. Abby Hehl found Katina Duscio, who blasted a shot from the point. The puck deflected off a Vermont skate and past Jessie McPherson (26 saves). Hillary Sterling was credited with the secondary assist.

- The Saints doubled their lead at 9:06 into the second period with a power play goal. Anna Segedi fired a shot from the point that was rebounded and tucked home by Abby Hustler.

- Hustler scored her second goal of the period at the 12:46 mark to make it 3-0 in favor of St. Lawrence. Off a centering pass from Segedi, Hustler one-timed the puck into the bottom corner of the net. Kennedy Wilson was also credited with an assist.

- Vermont nearly got one back late in the second period when Krista Parkkonen unleashed a slap shot from the faceoff circle. Her shot struck the left post and rebounded to Evelyne Blais-Savoie, who quickly fired a wrist shot that was saved by Emma-Sofie Nordstrom.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

- Nordstrom posted her second career shutout, posting 20 saves for St. Lawrence.

- Sara Levesque blocked a game-high six shots for the Catamounts.
