PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team hit the road to Rhode Island to face Brown in game one of the two-game series. Despite playing with a two goal deficit, the Crusaders battled back, equalizing in the third period with back-to-back goals to force the game into overtime. The Bears took the 4-3 win after scoring 28 seconds into overtime.

Brown kicked things off with back-to-back power-play goals scored midway through the first period. Sophomore forward Alexia Moreau answered back to bring the Crusaders within one at 18:15. Moreau was assisted by sophomore forward Lane Lewis and sophomore defensemen Casey Borgiel for her first assist of the season.

The Bears opened the second period with another goal to extend their lead to 3-1 just three minutes into play. The Crusaders lead Brown in shots 14-12 in the second but couldn't convert by the end of the period.

Still trailing by two goals, with three minutes left in the third, the Crusaders pulled their goalie for the extra skater advantage. Sophomore forward Alexis Perry stepped up to the challenge and netted her first collegiate goal at 17:33 assisted by freshman forward Reghan Chawick and Borgiel. Perry answered again just a minute later to tie the game up 3-3 and send the game into overtime, once again assisted by Borgiel. The Bears took the win 4-3 in OT with a goal scored just 28 seconds into extra time.


HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Brown struck first with two power-play goals scored at 13:34 and 13:42 in the first period. Holy Cross answered with a goal scored by Moreau at 18:15 assisted by Borgiel.

- The Bears tallied another goal for the 3-1 lead at the 3:36 mark in the second period.

- Holy Cross tied the game up in the third period with Perry scoring two goals within the last three minutes of regulation. Chadwick assisted the first goal and Borgiel assisted both goals.scoring.

- The Bears scored the winning goal just 28 seconds into overtime

- Holy Cross and Brown were even in shot attempts, 40-40


BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

- Moreau scored her first goal of the season

- Perry scored her first two collegiate goals back-to-back

- Borgiel had three assists on the day, a single-game career high

- Chadwick had her first career assist

- Brooke Loranger made 16 saves to 40 shots faced on the day.
