BOSTON- Fifth year netminder Gwyneth Philips pitched a 27-save shutout as the No. 5 Northeastern women's hockey team defeated the No. 11 Penn State Nittany Lions, 1-0, in its season opener at Matthews Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Northeastern improves to 1-0 on the season, while the Nittany Lions drop to 0-1. The Huskies own a 9-2-4 mark in season-openers in the Flint era.
