Merrimack Shut Out By Clarkson, 5-0

Box Score

Potsdam, N.Y.-The Merrimack Warriors Women's hockey team was defeated in their season opener against the Clarkson Golden Knights by a score of 5-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams had their opportunities to score in the first period, but Clarkson would take lead around the 10 minute mark for the first and would strike shortly after to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

In the second period, Clarkson would score three more times as the Warriors would trail by five after two.

In the third period, the Warriors could not get on the scoreboard however, Calli Hogarth made 13 saves in the frame.

Coach Hamlen's post game comments: "From a positive perspective, the third period was much better structurally. We did a better job of playing tighter coverage in the defensive zone. We need to do a much better job of managing the transitional play and the speed that Clarkson has. We need to limit our turnovers, and then do a better job of getting underneath bodies on the back check and sorting it out. I thought (Calli) Hogarth played very well and managed most of the first saves and that's where the back checks would've helped on a couple of the rebounds that she kicked out. With the number of freshmen in the lineup, we thought this was a good game for them to gain experience against a team with ranking that has had NCAA tournament experience as well."

- Calli Hogarth made 28 saves in the loss.
