HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

#2 Boston College began its 2019-20 regular season title defense with a pair of victories over #7 Massachusetts. Matt Boldy (Millis, Mass.) led the Eagles with four points on one goal and three assists. He netted the game-winning goal in the third period on Friday night at home to break a 3-3 tie before dishing out two primary assists in Saturday’s 6-3 victory. Boldy was also named to USA Hockey’s preliminary roster for the 2021 World Junior Championship on Monday afternoon.

Eagles rookie Colby Ambrosio (Welland, Ont.) registered the first two points of his collegiate career, setting up Boldy’s game-winning goal on Friday before netting his first NCAA goal on Saturday. He led the league with nine shots on net and was a plus-three on the weekend.

USA Hockey announced the preliminary roster for the 2021 World Junior Championship Monday afternoon. Of the 29 players invited to the first training camp, 10 of the players are currently skating in Hockey East. Those players include Boston College’s Boldy, Drew Helleson, and Spencer Knight, Boston University’s Drew Commesso, Robert Mastrosimone, and Alex Vlasic, Northeastern’s Sam Colangelo, and Providence’s Brett Berard, Cam McDonald, and Patrick Moynihan.

The upcoming Hockey East league schedule will be announced later this week.

He ended the weekend with a plus-three rating and five shots on net.

PRO AMBITIONS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

HOCKEY EAST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Drew Helleson - Boston College

Drew Helleson (So., D; Farmington, Minn.) recorded a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 6-3 road victory at #7 Massachusetts. The sophomore defender finished the Eagles’ homeand- home sweep of the Minutemen with five shots on net and a plus-two rating.

HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Mike Hardman, BC (So., F; Hanover, Mass.) Posted two goals and one assist for three points in an Eagles’ sweep of #7 Massachusetts over the weekend.

Jack McBain, BC (Jr., F; Toronto, Ont.) Found the back of the net twice in Friday’s 4-3 season-opening win against #7 Massachusetts.

Marc McLaughlin, BC (Jr., F; North Billerica, Mass.) Scored twice in the Eagles’ 6-3 victory at #7 UMass on Saturday.
