News and notes from the upcoming weekend of Hockey East action

#5 Boston College vs. #10 Northeastern (home-and-home)

- With three weeks remaining in the Hockey East regular season, a crucial top-10 home-and-home between #5 Boston College and #10 Northeastern kicks off Thursday night at Matthews Arena. The last time the two faced off was in the 2019 Hockey East championship game, where the Huskies claimed a 3-2 victory.

- Most recently, the Eagles completed a two-game sweep of Merrimack, 3-2 and 6-2.

- Hockey East Player of the Week Alex Newhook (St. John's, New.) extended his point streak to seven games (7g, 6a) after recording a career-best five point game (2g, 3a) on Saturday. Newhook racked up eight points (4g, 4a) in three games last week, the most of any player in the NCAA.

- Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week Matt Boldy (Millis, Mass.) assisted on the game-winning goal in Friday's 3-2 victory over Merrimack and contributed two goals and another helper in Saturday night's 6-2 outing. Boldy's point streak now stands at five games with three goals and six assists.

- The Huskies swept an important Hockey East series with #14 UMass Lowell last weekend. Craig Pantano (Bridgewater, Mass.) was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week after blocking 54 of the 55 shots that came his way over the weekend and recording a shutout in a 3-0 victory on Friday night. No goaltender in the country had more saves than Pantano's 84 in three games last week.

- Northeastern pulled off a 2-1 win with a game-winning goal from freshman Matt Demelis (HIngham, Mass.) at 9:26 in the third.


#8 Massachusetts vs. #14 UMass Lowell (home-and-home)

- Four conference points are up for grabs between UMass and UMass Lowell as the two rival programs are separated by just two points in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings.

- Coming off a bye weekend, the Minutemen are tied for first place in Hockey East. Greg Carvel's squad most recently swept a home-and-home of then-#10 Providence.

- The River Hawks fell twice last weekend, defeated by the-#12 Northeastern Huskies, 3-0 on Friday, and 3-2 on Saturday at Matthews Arena.

- UMass Lowell took an early lead on Saturday, going up 1-0 in the first period off a goal from Reid Stefanson (Winnipeg, Man.), but ended up falling, 3-2.


Vermont at #17 Maine

- Vermont travels to Orono to face off with Maine in search of its first conference win, where the Black Bears boast a 11-1-2 record at home this season. It was this past October when the Black Bears last saw the Catamounts and were able to grab a 2-1 victory on the road in Burlington.

- Last weekend, UVM lined up with #15 Providence twice, ending in a 1-1 draw on Friday night. Senior netminder Stefanos Lekkas (Elburn, Ill.) had 37 saves on Friday and another 31 on Saturday.

- A trio of Catamount goals on the weekend came from Vlad Dzhioshvili (Moscow, Russia) to tie the game on Friday, and Max Kaufman (Rochester, N.Y.), and Andrew Lucas (Alexandria, Va.) the following night in a 3-2 setback.

- Maine hosted UConn this past weekend, splitting the two-game series with the Huskies. The #17 Black Bears were defeated, 3-2, on Friday as they suffered their first home loss of the year. The next night saw a 41-save performance Jeremy Swayman (Anchorage, Alaska) and an overtime goal from Mitchell Fossier (Alpharetta, Ga.) at 4:07 of the extra frame in a 1-0 victory.


#15 Providence vs. Merrimack (home-and-home)

- #15 Providence lines up with the Warriors of Merrimack twice for a home-and-home this weekend. The last time these two met was during the 2018-19 season in a three-game series. The Friars outscored the Warriors, 20-7, across those three games as Providence earned all a trio of wins.

- The Friars return home from a trip to Burlington where they earned three out of four conference points in a crowded Army ROTC Hockey East Standings. After a period of overtime play, Friday night's contest ended in a 1-1 draw as Michael Lackey (Washington, D.C.) recorded 32 saves.

- Saturday night was a tally in the win column for Providence. The Friars got 39 saves from Lackey made and goals from Patrick Moynihan (Millis, Mass.), Tyce Thompson (Milford, Conn.), and Max Crozier (Calgary, Alta.) in a 3-2 victory.

- The Warriors are coming off a two-game battle with then-#6 Boston College, where they fell twice to the Eagles. Friday night's 3-2 result was back-andfroth with goals coming from forwards Chase Gresock (Powell, Ohio), and Regan Kimens (Vaughn, Ontario).

- Saturday's match up ended in a 6-2 defeat, but Kimens was able to find the back of the net again, along with Liam Walsh (Bridgeville, Pa.) to get the Warriors on the board.


Boston University vs. UConn (home-and-home)

- The Boston University Terriers and UConn Huskies have a home-and-home series on tap. The last time the Terriers took on UConn was last February. when the two split a weekend series. The Huskies took the first game in overtime before the Terriers grabbed game two's win.

- The pair also faced off in the 2018 Friendship Four in Belfast, Northern Ireland last November, where the Terriers claimed a 3-2 victory overseas.

- Boston University swept the UNH Wildcats last weekend, winning, 4-1, on Friday night, and following up with a 3-1 win on Saturday. Sam Tucker (Wilton, Conn.) denied 69 of 71 shots New Hampshire challenged him with over the two-game spread.

- Freshman Trevor Zegras (Bedford, N.Y.) posted a game-high three points on Friday with a goal and two assists.

- Last weekend, UConn handed Maine its first loss at home this season with a 3-2 win at Alfond Arena on Friday night. Benjamin Freeman (Falmouth, Maine) had a career-high three points and a hand in all three UConn goals in Friday's win, including the game-winning goal the third period to deliver the Huskies their fifth-straight Hockey East win

- On Saturday, UConn proceeded to take the Black Bears to overtime, where they fell 1-0, despite 25 saves from sophomore Tomáš Vomáčka (Trutnov, Czech Republic.) Vomáčka stopped 49 of 52 shots he saw at #17 Maine last weekend.
