Maine at #13 Northeastern
- The #13 ranked Huskies of Northeastern host Maine for a two-game set this weekend. The last time these squads saw of each other was in the quarterfinals of the Hockey East Tournament, where the Huskies took the best-of-three series with a pair of 2-1 wins.
- The Black Bears swept New Hampshire last weekend at Alfond Arena, winning 3-1 on Friday night and 2-1 on Saturday night in overtime.
- Senior forward Mitchell Fossier (Alpharetta, Ga.) surpassed the 100-career point milestone Saturday night with his overtime game-winning assist, his third helper of the weekend.
- Jeremy Swayman (Anchorage, Alaska) fended off 62 of the 64 shots he saw received from the Wildcats, earning Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week accolades. He has helped Maine to a 9-0-1 record in their last 10 games at home.
- Northeastern split a two-game series with Providence last weekend falling, 3-2, on Friday night, but bouncing back for a 7-3 victory at Matthews Arena on Saturday. A key victory for the Huskies, it was the first time they defeated the Friars in three years, the last win coming on Nov. 18, 2016.
- Alternate captain Matt Filipe (Lynnfield, Mass.) led the Huskies to victory with a career-high two goals and two assists on Saturday night to post his 12th career multi-point game and the first of this season.
Merrimack vs. #7 Massachusetts (home and home)
- A home-and-home battle begins in Amherst Friday night as Merrimack heads west to take on the #7 Minutemen. Over the course of the 2018-19 season the programs met three times, each time UMass emerging with a victory.
- After a bye weekend, the Warriors have fresh legs and are riding off a 0-1-1 weekend with Northeastern. Freshman defenseman Declan Carlile (Hartland, Mich.) played a hand in both of the Warriors' goals against the Huskies. He notched an assist in an eventual 1-1 tie on Nov. 8 and then potted his second goal on his rookie campaign Nov. 9 for Merrimack's tally in a 3-1 loss.
- UMass finished last weekend on a high note, defeating Boston University, 4-1, after falling to the Terriers, 4-3, on Friday. The Minutemen were tied 1-1 entering the third period on Saturday, but three goals in the final 20 minutes secured a win and two conference points.
- Mitchell Chaffee (Rockford, Mich.), recorded the first and second goals for UMass the victory, the latter proving to be the game-winner on a power-play early in the third. Chaffee is carrying a seven-game point streak into the weekend (7g, 5a.)
New Hampshire vs. Michigan
- The Wildcats welcomes the University of Michigan to Durham for two quality non-conference contests. It was 2014 when New Hampshire last got the chance to face off with the Wolverines, when they flew out to Ann Arbor and split the two-game series.
- Thus far, Michigan has recorded a 3-7-2 overall record and are 0-5-1 in Big Ten play.
- New Hampshire looks to this head-to-head as a fresh start after falling twice to the Black Bears last weekend on their trip to Maine. Although they did not walk away with a win, UNH took Maine to overtime on Saturday night after Angus Crookshank (North Vancouver, B.C.) struck first to start the game off 1-0. Rookie forward Kalle Eriksson (Leksand, Sweden) recorded his first career point with an assist on Crookshank's goal.
- Following the non-conference tilt, New Hampshire travels to Belfast, Northern Ireland for the annual Friendship Four tournament alongside Northeastern, Colgate, and Princeton.
UConn vs. #12 Providence (home and home)
- A weekend of home-and-home play for the Huskies of UConn and #12 Providence Friars commences Friday in Connecticut. These two squads faced off twice last season, Providence taking both wins.
- UConn enjoyed a 1-0-1 weekend over then-#12 UMass Lowell. Hockey East Player of the Week Wyatt Newpower (Hugo, Minn.) scored his first goal of the season in the 2-1 Husky victory on Saturday night and added two assists to the board to contribute to Friday's 3-3 tie.
- Tomas Vomacka (Trutnov, Czech Republic) helped back-stop the Huskies, stopping 12 shots in the 3-3 tie, and 29 shots to come away with a 2-1 upset on the road over the River Hawks.
- Providence walked away from last weekend's competition with a win and a loss in a two-game match up with Northeastern. The 3-2 victory on Friday night was fueled by Tyce Thompson (Milford, Conn.) and Jack Dugan (Rochester, N.Y.), who each produced two-point performances.
- Two Providence goals came from junior forward Jason O'Neill (Odenton, Md.) on the weekend, one being the game-winner on Friday night, and the other in the first period of Saturday's downfall at Northeastern.
Boston University vs. Vermont, Sacred Heart
- The Catamounts travel to Boston this weekend for a two-game battle at Boston University. Last season, the Cats and Terriers had a nail-biter of a series as both games resulted in just a one-goal victory for BU, including one game stretching into overtime.
- The Terries went 1-1-0 with UMass this past weekend, defeating the Minutemen on home ice, 4-3, but falling, 4-1, at the Mullins Center on Saturday night. Graduate goaltender Sam Tucker (Wilton, Conn.) made 49 saves to secure the win on Friday, a career-high performance for the netminder.
- Terrier Defenseman David Farrance (Victor, N.Y.) continued to put the puck in the net at a torrid pace with a goal in Friday's win, his sixth in just three games. Farrance is on pace to the record for the most goals in Hockey East play in a single season for a defender, currently set at 13 by Northeastern's Rob Cowie in 1990-91.
- Vermont hosted #14 Boston College last weekend, where they were defeated twice by the Eagles. Senior goaltender Stefanos Lekkas (Elburn, Ill.) compiled 52 saves in the series, while sophomore forward Joey Cipollone (Purchase, N.Y.) had the lone Catamount goal in the two-game set.
Boston College vs. Yale
- Boston College Head Hockey Coach Jerry York, the winningest coach in college hockey history, was formally inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday night in Toronto. York is the first person inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame for a career solely in college hockey.
- Over the weekend, York coached his team to a sweep at Vermont . The Eagles have now won five straight games, outscoring opponents 22-4 in that span.
- Rookie netminder Spencer Knight (Darien, Conn.) stopped 61 of the 62 shots he faced at Vermont this weekend, picking up .948 save percentage. On Saturday, he registered his third shutout in 11 starts by making 34 saves, including 17 in the first period, and pushed his personal winning streak to five games.
