Massachusetts won its first ever Hockey East regular season title with a 4-2 win at Merrimack on Thursday night. Cale Makar (Calgary, Alta.) had a three-point night on two goals and an assist on the game-winning goal. That assist, his 26th of the year, set a new program single-season record for assists by a defenseman. He also added an assist Saturday for his team-leading 40th point of the season, becoming the first Minuteman to hit the 40 point plateau since 2009-10.

On Saturday, Boston University defensemen Chad Krys (Ridgefield, Conn./2g, 3a) and Dante Fabbro (New Westminster, B.C./1g, 4a) each racked up five points in a 5-1 win over Merrimack. Krys became the first Terrier defenseman since 1971 to record two goals and three assists in a game, while Fabbro also totaled nine blocked shots over the Terriers' two games as the defense allowed just one goal in each contest.

Providence clinched home ice advantage in the Hockey East Tournament quarterfinals with a 1-1 tie against Boston University on Thursday evening after topping UConn, 5-2, on Tuesday. Rookie Jack Dugan (Rochester, N.Y.) tallied two assists in at UConn and scored the game-tying goal in a 1-1 draw in the third period against the Terriers.

New Hampshire took a key three points from #14 UMass Lowell in a home-andhome series. Goaltender Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) posted a 0.96 goals against average and a .960 save percentage as he made 29 saves at the Whittemore Center on Friday to tally his fifth shutout of the season and of his career in a 1-0 win. He then made 19 saves as the Wildcats tied the River Hawks on Saturday on the road, 2-2.

Chad Krys & Dante Fabbro - Boston University

Chad Krys (Ridgefield, Conn.) became the first Terrier defenseman since 1971 to record two goals and three assists in a game, having a hand in all five goals in BU's 5-1 victory over Merrimack on Saturday. Meanwhile, his defensive corps partner, Dante Fabbro (New Westminster, B.C.) chipped in five points of his own (1g, 4a) against the Warriors. Fabbro also totaled nine blocked shots over the Terriers' two games as the defense allowed just one goal in each contest.

Jack Dugan - Providence

Jack Dugan (Rochester, N.Y.) tallied two assists in a 5-2 win at UConn on Tuesday and scored the game-tying goal in a 1-1 draw in the third period against Boston University on Thursday. He led all league rookies with a plus-four rating this past week.

Cale Makar - Massachusetts

Cale Makar (Calgary, Alta.) helped UMass clinch its first-ever Hockey East regular season championship with a three-point night (2g, 1a) in a 4-2 win at Merrimack on Thursday. His assist came on the game-winning goal, while he found the back of the net in power-play and short-handed situations. He set a new program single-season record for assists by a defenseman (26) in the process. In a 6-0 blanking of Maine on Saturday, he added an assist for his team-leading 40th point of the season, becoming the first Minuteman to hit the 40 point plateau since 2009-10.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

David Cotton, BC (Jr., F; Parker, Texas) Scored his league-leading 19th and 20th goals of the season this weekend against No. 9 Northeastern, extending his goal streak to three games in a row. He has found the back of the net in five of the Eagles' last seven games.

Joel Farabee, BU (Fr., F; Cicero, N.Y.) Scored a highlight-reel goal and added an assist in Saturday's 5-1 win over Merrimack after assisting on BU's lone goal in a 1-1 draw at #8 Providence on Thursday.

Jake Oettinger, BU (Jr., G; Lakeville, Minn.) Stopped 77 of 79 shots he faced last week, including a 45-save outing at #8 Providence to help the Terriers earn three of four points in Hockey East play.

Jonny Evans, UConn (Fr., F; North Delta, B.C.) Netted three goals across two games last week to help the Huskies split, falling to #8 Providence but downing Vermont, 5-1. The rookie scored the first and final goals against Vermont in his third multi-goal effort this season. In his last eight games since missing 12 to injury, he has five goals and five assists.

Tomas Vomacka, UConn (Fr., G; Trutnov, Czech Republic) Set a new career high with 34 saves in a 5-1 victory over Vermont on Friday to improve to 4-2-0 in his last six starts.

Filip Lindberg, UMass (Fr., G; Espoo, Finland) In his first game since Feb. 8, he earned his first collegiate shutout with a 16-save outing to backbone UMass to a 6-0 win over Maine. Lindberg is now 6-2-0 on the year.

Christoffer Hernberg, UML (Sr., G; Espoo, Finland) Stopped 21 of 22 shots he saw in a 1-0 loss at New Hampshire on Friday.

Tyler Wall, UML (Jr., G; Leamington, Ont.) Kicked out 30 of 32 shot attempts in a 2-2 tie on Saturday night against New Hampshire.

Austin Plevy, NU (Sr., F; Langley, B.C.) Netted a goal in each game against Boston College to help NU to a weekend split.

Jordan Harris, NU (Fr., D; Haverhill, Mass.) Had a pair of primary assists on Saturday night against Boston College and blocked two shots and was a plus-two in two games this weekend

Cayden Primeau, NU (So., G; Voorhees, N.J.) Went 1-1-0 with a 2.01 GAA and .947 save percentage in two games against Boston College this weekend, including a 41-save performance in a 4-2 win on Saturday.

Josh Wilkins, PC (Jr., F; Raleigh, N.C) Tied for the Hockey East lead in goals this past week with three, a hat trick on Tuesday night at UConn in Providence's 5-2 win. On Thursday, Wilkins assisted on the tying goal in the third period against Boston University. He has now posted three-consecutive seasons of at least 30 points.
