ORONO, Me. - The University of Maine Women's Ice Hockey team defeated the University of New Brunswick, 4-2, in the Black Bears lone exhibition of the 2019-20 season.
The Black Bears got off to a hot start early against the Reds of New Brunswick. The scoring outburst began with a goal from Vendula Pribylova at 6:20 into the period, coming off assists from Claire Coffman and Amalie Andersen. Andersen's strong first period didn't end there, as she followed up the assist with a slap shot from the blue line to beat Hilary Cashin in net at 17:37 into the period, for the 2-0 lead, coming off of Tereza Vanisova's feed from the boards.
The second period was more of the same for the Black Bears. Captain Jillian Flynn entered the net for UMaine in place of Carly Jackson, and like Jackson, shut out the Reds. Vanisova padded the Maine lead with a hard wrist shot out of the slot 22 seconds into the period. Ida Kuoppala and Daria Tereshkina added assists on the short handed goal.
The Reds of New Brunswick were able to find some offense in the 3rd, scoring a pair of goals off of the stick of Lillian George (10:36 and 19:32 into the period). The Black Bears were able to add a goal of their own to increase their lead to 4-2 off of the smooth skills from Tereza Vanisova (12:44 into the period), solidifying their victory.
