WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's hockey team lost to No. 8 Boston University, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center.
The Crusaders jumped out to an early lead thanks to a Katie MacCuaig goal in just the second minute of action. The Terriers responded with three goals in the remainder of the first period to take the 3-1 lead into the first break.
The two teams traded goals in the second, with Mary Edmonds scoring her fourth of the year sandwiched between two BU tallies. Neither side would add another in the final frame.
1-0 HC (1st, 1:10, EV): MacCuaig netted her third goal of the season off a rebound from a Hannah Gillis shot. Carlie Magier picked up the other assist.
1-1 BU (1st, 13:48, PP): The Terrier's Jesse Compher tied the game up twelve and half minutes later.
2-1 BU (1st, 14:01, EV): Nadia Mattivi made sure the tie was short-lived as she put BU up shortly after the equalizer.
3-1 BU (1st, 16:52, PP): Sammy Davis made it a three-goal period for the Terriers.
4-1 BU (2nd, 4:55, PP): Davis got her second of the game to start the second period.
4-2 HC (2nd, 11:46, EV): Edmonds received a pass from Sofia Smithson in the low slot and beat BU's Kate Stuart. Bailey Bennett was responsible for the pass that sprung Smithson.
5-2 BU (2nd, 13:39, EV): The Terrier's Courtney Correia wrapped up the scoring for both sides.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Edmonds' fourth of the year ties her for the team lead with Magier.
- Magier has now recorded at least a point in three straight games.
- This was the fourth game in a row that Holy Cross has scored at least two goals.
The Crusaders will host Vermont in a pair of games next Saturday and Sunday, with the first at 1:05 p.m. on Feb. 15.
