DURHAM, N.H. - The sixth-ranked Boston College women's hockey team earned a 5-1 road win over New Hampshire on Friday night, scoring five unanswered goals in the second and third periods after entering the first intermission down a goal.
Caitrin Lonergan (1 goal, three assists) led the Eagles with a career-best four points, while Makenna Newkirk (two goals, one assist) and Megan Keller (three assists) each recorded three-point outings. Toni Ann Miano notched her 50th career point with her third-period goal. Delaney Belinskas added her eighth goal of the season with under one minute to play.
"We came out a little flat, but we were able to finish strong tonight," BC head coach Katie Crowley said. "I'm really happy that we were able to keep things simple in the third and finish the game playing well."
Boston College (8-3-2, 7-2-0 HEA) earned its 11th straight game against New Hampshire (3-9-0, 3-4-0 HEA).
BC out-shot the Wildcats 32-11 in the game as BC's Katie Burt made 10 saves in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st, 4:44 | UNH GOAL, 0-1 - Meghara McManus picked up a clearing attempt off the halfboards, cut inside and ripped a shot off at the faceoff dot. Her attempt dinged in off the underside of the crossbar to put UNH up early.
2nd, 5:58 | BC GOAL, 1-1 (PPG) - On the team's third power-play of the night, the Eagles worked the puck around to Megan Keller at the center point. She threw a pass down low where Caitrin Lonergan one-timed it just off the post, finding space between the near pipe and Cashin to even the score at 1-1.
2nd, 7:18 | BC GOAL, 2-1 - Keller gathered the puck just inside her own zone, spun and fed Lonergan along the boards. Lonergan skated into the zone to the faceoff circle and played the puck back to Makenna Newkirk trailing the play, and her wrister beat Cashin and gave BC its first lead of the game.
3rd, 11:26 | BC GOAL, 3-1 - Newkirk intercepted a UNH clearing pass behind the goal and fed Kristyn Capizzano out wide along the goal line. Newkirk then cycled into space just off the crease in front, and Capizzano fed her in front for the re-direction under Cashin.
3rd, 11:58 | BC GOAL, 4-1 - Less than one minute later, the Eagles broke back into the zone and after some battle on the near side, Lonergan pushed the puck back across the zone to Keller breaking in. Keller's pass back kicked off a defender in front and found Toni Ann Miano alone in the high slot. Miano created space and sent a high shot in from the top of the far circle that beat Cashin and gave the Eagles a three-goal cushion.
3rd, 19:18 | BC GOAL, 5-1 - With under one minute to play, Kenzie Kent came up with the puck off the boards in her own defensive end and found Delaney Belinskas near the blue line. The freshman skated through center ice into the UNH end and got off a shot in the slot that beat Cashin for the Eagles' final goal.
