CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Emily Field and freshman Kristyn Capizzano each scored two goals and 10 different Eagles recorded a point as No. 7 Boston College defeated Connecticut, 6-2 Saturday afternoon t Kelley Rink.
Capizzano gave BC a 1-0 lead at 19:27 of the first period with a power play goal as she skated across the crease, scooped up a rebound on Andie Anastos' shot, and backhanded the puck into the net past the pads of UConn goaltender Elaine Chuli.
Jackie Young extended the Eagles' lead to 2-0 with her first goal of the season at 4:16 of the middle stanza. Young took a feed from Meagan Mangene and blasted a low shot from just inside the blue line that hit the inside of the far post and ricocheted into the net.
The Huskies cut the lead in half with a goal from Sarah MacDonnell at 7:27 of the second period. Rachel Farrel got behind BC's defense with the puck along the boards and found herself in a two-on-none situation as she slid a cross-ice pass to MacDonell who buried it in the net past Boyles' glove.
Dana Trivigno regained the two goal lead when she picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone, skated through four UConn defenders, and lifted a shot from the inside edge of the circle into the net, beating Chuli glove side to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead at 18:00 of the middle frame.
Capizzano scored her second goal of the game at 3:22 of the third period and gave BC a 4-1 lead when she punched in a rebound off Kaliya Johnson's initial shot.
The Huskies wouldn't go away quietly and made the score 4-2 with Leah Buress' power-play goal that she slid between Boyles' pads from the goal line at 9:10 of the final stanza.
Field answered for the Eagles with a power-play goal of her own at 11:09, lifting a shot from the circle into the top corner of the net. She scored her second goal of the game just over three minutes later at 14:20 when she flipped in a rebound and settled the score at 6-2.
Boyles made 16 saves and improves to 8-3-0. Chuli stopped 48 shots and falls to 2-4-1.
BC was 2-3 on the power play, while UConn went 1-2 on the man advantage.
The Eagles will face off against the Huskies again tomorrow in an away game. Puck drops at 2 p.m.
