MAINE DEFEATED BY BROWN, 6-5

Senior forward Brittany Dougherty had two goals and an assist for the Black Bears

Providence, R.I. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team fell to Brown University by a score of 6-5 at the Meehan Auditorium in Providence, Rhode Island. Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Michigan) led the Black Bears with two goals and one assist in this Sunday afternoon non-conference game. With the loss, Maine falls to 3-15-1 on the season while Brown improves to 3-9-1.

Brown got on the board first off the stick of Lauren Vella. Vella found the back of the net at 13:36 of the first period with the assist going to Victoria Smith and Laurie Jolin.

Dougherty tallied her first goal of the game at 15:11 of the first period to tie the game at 1-1. This marks her ninth goal of the season. Kayla Kaluzny (Calgary, Alberta) picked up her first assist of the season on the power play opportunity.

The second period saw all Brown University action as the Brown Bears push the score to 3-1. Vella registered her second goal of the game at 2:18 of the second period on the power play goal. Jolin picked up her second assist of the game. Jolin notched the third Brown Bear goal at 18:53 of the second period off the Vella assist.

Rachel Bellio (Denver, Colorado) notched her first career goal at 6:18 of the third period. Jillian Langtry (Fort Frances, Ontario) picked up her second assist of the season while Dougherty notched her 11th.

Audra Richards (Maplewood, Minnesota) took full advantage of the power play opportunity at 9:03 of the third period to tie the game at 3-3. This marks her sixth goal of the season and her fourth power play goal. Chloe Tinkler (Wabush, Newfoundland) picked up her fourth assist of the season o the power play goal.

The Brown Bears would score three unanswered goals for the 6-3 lead; Kelly Micholson at 10:21, Alena Polenska at 11:01, and Monica Masucci at 15:48.

Dougherty brought Maine within two at 16:18 for her second goal of the game and tenth of the season. Kaluzny notched her second assist of the season while Brooklyn Langlois (Steinbach, Manitoba) picked up her third on the even strength goal.

Jennifer More (Deloraine, Manitoba) was able to bring the score to 6-5 at 18:23 off the Hailey Browne (Oakville, Ontario) assist.

Dougherty found a last second chance but the puck failed to completely cross the goalline before the final buzzer went.

Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Michigan) got the start for the Black Bears between the pipes as she posted 17 saves and three goals against in 40:00 minutes of play. Meghann Treacy (Lake Peekskill, New York) replaced Ott in the final period play, allowing three goals with four saves. Treacy sees her record fall to 0-6-0 on the season.

Katie Jamieson allowed five goals while posting 22 saves for Brown University in the 6-5 win.

Maine returns home on January 12 and 13 as it hosts Boston University for conference action. Game time is slated for 3:00 PM in both contests.
