Providence, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team came back from a two goal deficit to defeat the University of Vermont Catamounts, 4-2. In the first period of play, the Catamounts were able to take a 1-0 lead off of a Celeste Doucet goal at 9:35. In the second period, PC dominated play, out-shooting the Catamounts 15-5 in the stanza, but it was Vermont who was able to add to their lead. Kristi Anderson streaked down the left hand boards and then cut in to release a shot from the top of the face-off circles that rang off the post and in to give Vermont a 2-0 advantage at 13:07.

In the third period, the Friars were finally able to beat Vermont goaltender Kristen Olychuck. Ruff got the Friars on the board just 17 seconds into the period for her fourth goal of the season. The goal was assisted by classmate Amber Yung (Rockville, Va.). Then Ruff struck for her second in a row at 2:19 while the Friars were on the power-play. The goal was assisted by Rachel Crissy (Naperville, Ill.) and Sarah Feldman (Fall River, Mass.). Friar goaltender Danielle Ciarletta then made a vital glove save to keep the game tied, as she was able to turn aside a Kate Lesniak drive from the bottom of the face-off circles at 2:37. Then, at 7:18, Hendrickson was able to score what proved to be the game-winner. Erin Normore (Cambridge, Ont.) took an initial shot from the point that was saved by Olychuck, but Hendrickson was able to put in the rebound. PC's fourth goal was scored at 11:45, as Jenna Keilch (Clinton Township, Mich.) was able to beat Olychuck on a wraparound attempt for her first of the season. Ciarletta ended up with 12 save to earn the win for the Friars, while Olychuck made 31 saves for Vermont.

The Friars return to action tomorrow as they host the ninth ranked Big Green of Dartmouth College. The game will be played at 2:00 p.m. in Providence, R.I. at Schneider Arena.
