Hollstein lifts UConn past Brown in overtime, 2-1

Sophomore Amy Hollstein scored the game-winner for UConn.

STORRS, Conn. (Nov. 4, 2007) - Sophomore Amy Hollstein (Pembroke, Mass.) netted her third goal of the season as she scored the game winner in overtime to lift the No. 8 University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team over Brown 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in the Mark E. Freitas Ice Forum.

After a scoreless first period, the Brown Bears found the back of the net first, as Samantha Stortini recorded her first goal of the season at 9:18 in the second period of play. Sasha Van Muyen connected for the assist, marking her first point of the 2007-08 season.

UConn responded the same way they have done all year long, immediately answering the opponent's goal with one of their own. Senior Britney Chandler (Pickering, Ont.) scored her first goal of the season and 10th career goal as she tied the game a one at 10:42 in the second.

The third period found both teams scoreless, which sent the game into overtime. This was the second straight game that the Huskies found themselves in extra minute play, as they defeated non-conference opponent Rensselaer 3-2.

In overtime Brown's goaltender Nicole Stock recorded three saves before Hollstein found the back of the net to secure the victory. Senior Jaclyn Hawkins (Manotick, Ont.) and sophomore Dominique Thibault (L'Orignal, Ont.) picked up the assists for Hollstein's game-winner. Thibault, now leading the Huskies with 20 points (10g, 10a) has recorded atleast one point in every UConn win this season.

Goaltender Jennie Bellonio (Guilford, Conn.) earned her third win of the season as she collected 15 saves in goal for the Huskies. Stock ended the game with an impressive mark of 38 saves.

The Huskies, now on a program's best nine-game winning streak with an overall record of 9-1-0 will return to action on Saturday, November 10, as they travel to New Hampshire for a 2:00 p.m. match-up against the ranked Hockey East opponent.
