Bemidji, Minn. - Bemidji State held off a late Vermont charge to skate to a 3-2 win in women's college hockey Sunday afternoon at John Glas Fieldhouse. The WCHA Beavers, who won 4-1 on Saturday, completed a weekend sweep over UVM with the victory.

After Tara Hiscock's power play goal at 9:21 of the third period gave BSU a 3-1 advantage, Vermont drew within one on a power play of its own less than a minute later. Peggy Wakeham (Bay Roberts, Newfoundland) scored her second of the season on an assist from Hannah Westbrook (Laramie, Wyoming) at 10:33. UVM increased its pressure out-shooting the Beavers, 11-6, in the final stanza. Bemidji State killed off a final extra-skater advantage with 3:03 remaining to close out the Catamounts.

BSU's Julie Rising opened the scoring with her fourth of the season just 2:10 into the contest. Celeste Doucet (Memramcook, New Brunswick) converted a feed from Teddy Fortin (Brunswick, Maine) for a power play goal to tie it a 1-1 at 6:19. With less than two minutes remaining in the first period, Lisa Kissack, on an assist from Jessica Tyra, gave the Beavers a 2-1 lead.

With several good chances in the final period, Vermont finished with a 27-25 advantage in shots for the game. Both teams had two power play goals as UVM went 2-for-7 and the Beavers cashed in on two of their four opportunites. All three Vermont goals in the two-game series came on the power play after it had not tallied one in its 10 previous contests.
