- #1 Boston College (28-3-3/19-2-3 HEA) will play host to #8 Vermont (10-18-5/7-13-4 HEA) at Conte Forum as the teams meet in the Women's Hockey East Tournament quarterfinals for the first time.
- This is the fifth straight season Boston College has earned the top seed and the Eagles have advanced to the championship game each of the last four years, including winning the 2016 and 2017 WHEA Tournament titles.
- During the regular season the Eagles swept the Catamounts, 3-0-0, including two one-goal victories at home Jan. 19-20.
- The two teams clashed in the 2017 semifinals, a game that saw the Eagles and Catamounts need two overtime frames to settle the contest, 4-3, in the Eagles' favor.
#7 UConn at #2 Providence - Fri. 2/23, Sat. 2/24, Sun. 2/25 at PC
- #2 Providence (16-11-7, 12-7-5 HEA) draws #7 UConn (13-12-9, 7-11-6 HEA) to Schneider Arena for the sixth post-season meeting between the two programs. The Huskies and Friars last played in the 2010 semifinals, a 3-2 UConn win at Providence.
- All-time, the Friars own a 4-1 tournament record over the Huskies, including a 1-0 mark in the quarterfinal round (2009).
- The two programs split the season series, 1-1-1, with each home team taking a win to go along with a 2-2 draw at UConn.
- The Friars are looking to return to the semifinals for the first time since 2013. The Huskies last advanced out of the quarterfinals in 2016.
- Providence has never lost a playoff game while seeded second (2-0), winning the tournament title in 2004. The two seed is the highest the Friars have finished since 2009-10 when they earned the top playoff position.
#6 Boston University at #3 Maine - Fri. 2/23, Sat. 2/24, Sun. 2/25 at Maine
- #3 Maine (17-12-5, 11-9-4 HEA) welcomes #6 Boston University (13-15-6, 7-11-5 HEA) to Alfond Arena Friday in what will be the Terriers' first-ever true road contest in the Women's Hockey East Tournament.
- The Black Bears swept the Terriers in the 2017-18 regular season, taking a 3-0-0 record against Boston University for the first time since the inception of Women's Hockey East.
- Maine is the only program that has not yet won a Women's Hockey East Tournament game. All-time, the Black Bears carry a record of 0-11. They were twice ranked third at the end of the regular season and advanced directly into the semifinals, but dropped both contests. They also appeared in the semifinals in 2006 as a four-seed in a 6-0 loss to New Hampshire.
#5 New Hampshire at #4 Northeastern - Fri. 2/23, Sat. 2/24, Sun. 2/25 at NU
- No. 4 Northeastern (15-16-3, 11-11-2 HEA) will entertain No. 5 New Hampshire (14-13-7, 9-10-5 HEA) in the playoffs for the first time since 2015's quarterfinals. It is just the second time the two programs will meet in the quarterfinals and third time overall after the Wildcats downed the Huskies in the 2004 semifinals.
- Northeastern has advanced to the semifinals each year since 2011 while New Hampshire aims for its first semifinal appearance since 2010.
- In the regular season, Northeastern took a 2-1-0 mark against New Hampshire. The home team won each of those three games.
- New Hampshire has taken two of its last three quarterfinal series to a decisive third game but fallen in each of them.
