Boston College Shut Out By Arizona State, 2-0

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Despite heavily out-chancing and out-shooting 13th-ranked Arizona State, Boston College fell to the Sun Devils 2-0 on Saturday night at Gila River Arena to close its three-game winter break road trip.

Joey Daccord made 32 saves in the ASU net for his sixth shutout of the season. Brett Gruber opened the scoring midway through the second period, while Jordan Sandhu added an insurance goal on the power play at 7:27 of the third.

The Eagles (6-9-2, 6-1-2 HEA) out-shot the Sun Devils 14-3 in the opening frame, including the last 11 shots of the period. Rookies Jack McBain and Marc McLaughlin were each denied on partial breakaways early in the first two periods, and fellow freshman Patrick Giles was stopped by Daccord on a shot-pass in the third.

In the second period, Aapeli Räsänen deflected Luke McInnis' point shot off the left post. The Eagles had several net-front attempts in the period as David Cottonwas thwarted by the stick of Jacob Wilson with an open net. Cotton's backdoor feed to Julius Mattila later in the period deflected into the crease and Daccord was able to cover for a faceoff.

BC was held scoreless on six power play attempts, while Arizona State (16-7-1) finished 1-for-6. 13 different Eagles registered at least one shot on goal.
