BOSTON, Mass. - Junior Chris Connolly, sophomore Alex Chiasson and freshman Matt Nieto scored one goal each, as the No. 15 Boston University men's ice hockey team topped Vermont, 3-1, at Agganis Arena on Saturday night. With the win, the Terriers improved to 17-9-8 (14-5-6 HEA) and extended their unbeaten streak in Hockey East play to nine games (7-0-2).

After a scoreless first frame, Connolly and Chiasson scored second-period goals to give BU a 2-0 lead. Nieto added his marker in the third before Vermont's Tobias Nilsson-Roos ended the shutout bid with five seconds remaining in the game.

Junior netminder Kieran Millan made 27 saves, while Vermont's Rob Madore turned aside 31 shots as the Catamounts dropped to 7-18-7 (5-14-6 HEA).

BU was 2-for-7 on the power play with both tallies occurring while Vermont was killing off a major penalty. The Terriers outshot the Catamounts by a 34-28 margin and killed off all three of their chances with the man advantage.

After missing out on two great chances in the first, Connolly cashed in at the 10:13 mark of the second on a power play when he took a pass from freshman Sahir Gill and wristed it past Madore from the inside edge of the left circle. Sophomore Wade Megan also assisted on the play.

The Terriers doubled their lead before the end of the second, as a pass up the ice by freshman Adam Clendening freed up Chiasson for a breakaway, which he converted by beating Madore high glove-side at 17:30 for the eventual game-winner.

With 2:09 left in regulation, Nieto gave BU a 3-0 cushion when he backhanded a shot past Madore in transition with assists from junior Corey Trivino and Clendening.

Vermont's lone tally came with an extra attacker with the teams skating 4-on-4 following matching penalties in the final minute.

BU will return to action on Friday (March 4) when it visits Northeastern in the opener of a home-and-home series that will close out the regular season. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
