PROVIDENCE BLANKS ST. THOMAS, 4-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's hockey team scored three power-play goals, including two by senior co-captain Tony Zancanaro (Trenton, Mich.), en route to a 4-0 win over St. Thomas University (Fredericton, New Brunswick) on Friday, October 6 in an exhibition game at Schneider Arena.

The Friars took a 1-0 lead at the 11:51 mark of the first period when junior Jon Rheault (Deering, N.H.) slid a pass from the top of the left face-off circle to a streaking Colin McDonald (Wethersfield, Conn.) who tucked the puck past St. Thomas goalie Aaron Molnar.

In the second period, Zancanaro was set up by freshman John Cavanagh (Warwick, R.I.) in front as Zancanaro was able to tap the puck into the open net on the power-play. The Friars added two more goals on the man advantage in the third period to complete the scoring. Junior Jon Rheault (Deering, N.H.) who finished with one goal and two assists scored at the 1:26 mark, while Zancanaro added his second of the night at the 9:12 mark. John Cavanagh finished with three assists. In goal, junior Tyler Sims (Grand Blanc, Mich.), freshman Ryan Simpson (Bow, N.H.) and sophomore Chris Mannix (Hubbardston, Mass.) combined to hold the Tommies scoreless as they totaled 20 saves.

The Friars open their regular season on Friday, October 13 with a home game against Clarkson at 7:00 p.m.
