AROUND HOCKEY EAST: Hockey East saw three skaters compile hat tricks on the weekend, as Northeastern's Nolan Stevens (Sea Isle City, N.J.), Vermont's Liam Coughlin (South Boston, Mass.) and Boston University's Dante Fabbro (New Westminster, B.C.) found the back of the net three times each over the weekend ... #8 Northeastern earned a weekend split with Massachusetts, moving the Huskies into first place in the Army ROTC Hockey East standings. Husky captain Nolan Stevens (Sea Isle City, N.J.) tacked on four points (3g, 1a) in a 5-0 win against UMass on Saturday as he became the 52nd player in Northeastern history to record 100 career points. UMass goaltender Matt Murray (St. Albert, Alta.) earned his second shutout of the season, stopping 29 shots in a 3-0 win over #8 Northeastern, whose 3.58 overall goals per game is the best of any Hockey East team. It was the first time the Huskies have been shut out this season ... Maine earned four league points in three games last week, topping UMass, 3-1, on Tuesday before skating to a pair of stalemates against New Hampshire. The series featured two of the top goaltenders in Hockey East as Maine's Jeremy Swayman (Anchorage, Alaska) and New Hampshire's Danny Tirone (Trumbull, Conn.) saved a combined 158 shots last week ... UConn earned a weekend split with #10 Providence, as Tanner Creel (Arlington Heights, Ill.) Backstopped the Huskies to a 3-1 win over the Friars on the road, stopping 26 of 27 shots at Schneider Arena. Creel got just his third and fourth starts this year after an injury to starter Adam Huska and stopped 53 shots in a 1-1-0 weekend. The Friars took a 3-1 win over the Huskies Thursday night in Hartford, Connecticut on the back of two goals from Josh Wilkins (Raleigh, N.C.). The win pushed the Providence unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1) prior to the setback Saturday at the hands of the Huskies ... Boston University swept Merrimack, using a hat trick from Fabbro in a 4-3 road win Friday night. Bobo Carpenter (North Reading, Mass.) powered the Terriers the next night, in a 3-1 victory, as the junior forward scored twice and assisted on the third.

LIAM COUGHLIN - VERMONT

Liam Coughlin (South Boston, Mass.) scored four goals in a weekend split with UMass Lowell, including his first career hat trick on Saturday night. He scored the game-winning goal in Saturday's 6-3 win and had two power-play strikes for the Catamounts.

MATT MURRAY - MASSACHUSETTS

Matt Murray (St. Albert, Alta.) earned his second shutout of the season, stopping 29 shots in a 3-0 win over #8 Northeastern, whose 3.58 overall goals per game is the best of any Hockey East team. It was the first time the Huskies have been shut out this season.

DANNY TIRONE - NEW HAMPSHIRE


Jeremy Swayman (Anchorage, Alaska) went undefeated in three games, stopping a league-high 92 shots for a .939 save percentage and 1.89 goals against average. He made at least 30 saves in two of his outings, the 11th time he's had at least 30 stops, including in seven of his last eight games.

Danny Tirone (Trumbull, Conn.) earned two points in two games for the Wildcats, stopping 33 pucks in each outing. Tirone helped UNH to a pair of points in league play at Maine and within four points of the sixth slot in Hockey East.

HOCKEY EAST WEEKLY TOP PERFORMERS

Bobo Carpenter, BU (Jr., F; North Reading, Mass.) In a 3-1 win over Merrimack Saturday, scored twice and assisted on the third to help the Terriers complete a weekend sweep.

Dante Fabbro, BU (So., D; New Westminster, B.C.) Completed his first career hat trick, including the game-winning goal, to push the Terriers to a 4-3 win over Merrimack on the road Friday.

Shane Bowers, BU (Fr., F; Halifax, N.S.) Posted three points (1g, 2a) and finished a team-best plus-three in a sweep of Merrimack.

Tanner Creel, UConn (Sr., G; Arlington Heights, Ill.) Backstopped the Huskies to a 3-1 win over #10 Providence on the road, stopping 26 of 27 shots. Creel got just his third and fourth starts this year after an injury to starter Adam Huska and stopped 53 shots in a 1-1-0 weekend.

Chase Pearson, ME (So., F; Alpharetta, Ga.) Helped Maine to a 1-0-2 weekend in league play with one goal and two assists while firing 11 shots on net. He won 42 faceoffs on the week, the most of any skater in the league.

Brady Keeper, ME (Fr., D; Cross Lake, Man.) Dished out two assists and fired six shots on net while blocking two shots for the Black Bears.

Mitchell Chaffee, UMass (Fr., F; Rockford, Mich.) His first multi-goal game helped UMass to a 3-0 win over #8 Northeastern. He scored the game-winning tally and moved into the team lead with nine goals in 23 games on the year.

Tommy Panico, UML (Sr., D; Wall, N.J.) Notched a UML-best three points (1g, 2a) in a split at Vermont, adding three shots on net and four blocked shots.

Connor Sodergren, UML (Fr., F; Tewksbury, Mass.) In Friday's overtime win at Vermont, put up two points (1g, 1a) including the game-tying marker while shorthanded.

Tyler Wall, UML (So., G; Leamington, Ont.) Stopped 21 of 23 shots in Friday's 3-2 come from behind overtime victory at Vermont.

Brett Seney, MC (Sr., F; London, Ont.) Led the Warriors with two goals last week against BU, potting his team-leading eighth of the year.

Charlie Kelleher, UNH (Fr., F; Longmeadow, Mass.) In a 3-3 tie at Maine on Saturday, Kelleher posted three points (1g, 2a). He potted the game-tying goal at the mid-way point of the third period to secure a point in Hockey East play.

Nolan Stevens, NU (Sr., F; Sea Isle City, N.J.) Tacked on four points (3g, 1a) in a 5-0 win against UMass on Saturday as he became the 52nd player in Northeastern history to record 100 career points.

Alex Esposito, UVM (Fr., F; West Haven, Conn.) Posted four points (1g, 3a) in the split with the River Hawks including three points (1g, 2a) in Saturday's 6-3 win.

Jake Massie, UVM (So., D; Saint-Lazare, Que.) Netted his first collegiate goal Friday and chipped in with two assists Saturday. He also blocked six shots in the two-game series.
