AROUND HOCKEY EAST: New Hampshire and No. 4 Providence split a pair of games this weekend in Providence. The Friars' Trevor Mingoia (Fairport, N.Y.) scored a goal and added two assists in the two outings while New Hampshire's Kyle Smith (Lumberton, N.J.) found the back of the net twice in the Wildcats' 3-1 win Saturday night ... Maine collected four points in Hockey East play in a sweep of Massachusetts in Amherst last weekend. Blaine Byron (Manotick, Ont.) led the Black Bears with five points (2g, 3a) and was named Army ROTC First Star of both games while Matt Morris (Ridgewood, N.J.) collected the two wins in net, stopping 59 of 65 shots faced ... The 64th annual Beanpot opens tonight at TD Garden and will feature three top-10 ranked teams in No. 5 Boston College, No. 7 Harvard, and No. 10/9 Boston University. The fourth team, Northeastern, may be the nation's hottest team as the Huskies are unbeaten in their last eight outings dating back to Dec. 19 (7-0-1). The Eagles will take on Harvard in the first game at 5pm before the Terriers and Huskies battle at 8pm. Each game can be seen on NESN and TSN ... UMass Lowell racked up two convincing victories over Arizona State at The Tsongas Center, downing the Sun Devils 4-1 and 8-1 on the weekend. C.J. Smith, UML (Des Moines, Iowa) totaled five points (4g, 1a), including his first hat trick in an 8-1 win Saturday. Rookie netminder Christopher Hernberg (Espoo, Finland) stopped 19 of 20 shots in his first career start to claim a 4-1 win Friday night ... Merrimack found itself back in the win column with a 10-0 win over Arizona State Sunday evening. Derek Petti (Tewksbury, Mass.) tallied five points (2g, 3a), including the first two goals of his career, victory. His second marker came while the Warriors were short-handed.

C.J. Smith, UML (So., F; Des Moines, Iowa) totaled five points (4g, 1a) in a weekend sweep of Arizona State, including his first hat trick in an 8-1 win Saturday. Smith finished the weekend with 13 shots on goal and a plus-two rating.

DANIEL TIRONE - NEW HAMPSHIRE

Daniel Tirone, UNH (So., G; Trumbull, Conn.) backboned the Wildcats to a weekend split with No. 4 Providence. He stopped 38 of 40 shots Friday night before making 31 saves on 32 shots Saturday in a 3-1 win.

Sean Maguire, BU (Sr.,G; Powell River, B.C.) Maguire stopped all 27 shots he faced and earned a shared shutout with Connor LaCouvee in a 4-0 win against Merrimack on Friday.
