BOSTON - Aerin Frankel takes her second record of the week with her 62nd career win for No. 3 Northeastern (4-1-0, 4-1-0 HEA) beating New Hampshire (3-8-0, 3-8-0 HEA) 3-1 inside Matthews Arena Friday night. Katie Cipra and Tessa Ward both scored their first goals of the season in the win and Katy Knoll tallied her third.
With only six shots from the Huskies during the first period and 14 from the Wildcats, Northeastern was able to pot one goal from Cipra thanks to a Lauren MacInnis assist to take the 1-0 lead. Coming out strong for the second period, Knoll deflected a Megan Carter shot from the point to help the Huskies to a 2-0 lead. With seven saves from Frankel during the second, Brianna Brooks was able to tip one in behind her back giving the Wildcats their sole goal of the night. Tessa Ward added an empty-netter late to put it away.
With this win, Frankel surpasses former Northeastern standout Erika Silva's 61 career wins from 1997-2001 over 98 games. A native of Briarcliffe Manor, N.Y., Frankel reached this milestone in just 89 games for the Huskies and with only three more wins it would earn her a spot in the NCAA top 25 all-time overall career wins and she would be in the top five in career Hockey East wins. Frankel already holds school records in shutouts, save percentage, and goals against average.
Northeastern hits the road to take on New Hampshire at Whittemore Center on Saturday at 6:00pm. The game will be seen via College Sports Live.
