Annelise Rice (Excelsior, Minn.) got the Friars on the board with her third goal of the season 10:31 into the first. Rice was assisted by Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden).
Providence head into the penalty kill with 1:45 left in the first after Hjalmarsson was called for checking. Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston, Maine) followed her to the box for interference just 40 seconds left to go in the period. A strong 5-on-3 penalty left the Friars up 1-0 heading into the first intermission.
The Friars returned to the penalty kill 3:51 into the middle frame as Claire Tyo (Massena, N.Y.) was called for tripping.
Hunter Barnett (Caledon, Ontario) advanced the Friars lead to 2-0 with a wrist shot over the right glove 7:04 into the second. Barnett was unassisted in her first goal in a Friar's uniform.
Providence returned to the penalty box for their fourth time of the night after Isabelle Hardy (Oakville, Ontario) was called for body checking 4:02 into the final period.
Abstreiter finished the shut out game with 16 saves and helped the Friars kill off all four penalties. This is the net-minders third career shoutout game.
