Sophomore forward Mia Brown scored the game-winner for the Huskies

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Mia Brown notched the game-winning goal at the 19:37 mark of the third period to lead the No. 3/3 Northeastern women's hockey team to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Syracuse Orange.

Northeastern (2-0-0) and Syracuse (0-4-0) were both held scoreless through the first two periods of action, but both teams came alive in the third frame.

The Orange struck first as Kristen Siernachesky managed to sneak one past goaltender Aerin Frankel at the 7:38 mark in the third period, to put Syracuse up 1-0. Just under two minutes later, Brooke Hobson responded for the Huskies and evened the score at 1-1 on a power play goal at 9:26. Hobson's goal was assisted by Alina Mueller.

The Huskies late-game offensive push came with just 23 seconds left in the game as Brown scored with an assist from Peyton Anderson to give the Huskies a 2-1 victory in the opening game of the series with Syracuse.

Frankel finished the game with 26 saves and the Northeastern penalty kill unit staved off four power play attempts from the Orange.

Northeastern will face the Orange again for game two of the series tomorrow (Oct. 12) at 3 p.m.
