ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine Black Bears dropped their Hockey East Opener to the Huskies of Northeastern.

The first period was a close battle through the first 11 minutes, but then Northeastern found the back of the net. Jess Schryver opened up the scoring with a nifty move and finish on the back hand over Loryn Porters shoulder. Assisting on the play was Alina Mueller. The Huskies Matti Hartman followed that up with a score just 11 seconds later, with a strong wrist shot that squeaked by Porter on the glove side. Kate Holmes and Paige Capistran picked up assists.

The Huskies took advantage of an offensive zone turnover late in the first period to score their third goal in the opening period. Mueller found Chloe Aurard crashing the net for a tap in goal.

The 2nd Period took some time to develop, but the Huskies were able to find some momentum. After two good passes from Capistran and Gillian Foota, Mia Brown put it top right for the Huskies fourth goal. Muller was able to give Northeastern their 5th goal of the game off of the Chloe Aurard in the late stages of the second period, as she roofed the puck over Porters pads.

Carly Jackson enters the game following the goal by Aurard, settling Maine down into the third period.

Alina Muller is able to score a power play goal, coming off the sticks of Veronika Pettey and Brooke Hobson early on in the third period. Maine had an answer for the third period goal, as Tereza Vanisova goes coast-to-coast and beats the goalie with a phenomenal deke to beat Aerin Frankel in net.

The Black Bears, who fall to 2-2-1 and 0-1-0 in Hockey East, will stay at home as they host other Hockey East opponent, Boston University, on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 2:00 p.m. at Alfond Arena.
