Sophomore forward Ali Beltz posted a goal and an assist for the Black Bears

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine defeated the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University 5-1 on Saturday night at the Family Ice Center in Falmouth, Maine.

The first period was a closely contested battle, with only the Ravens finding the back of the net once. Haley Parker scored her ninth goal of the season 7:40 into the first period on a power play. Becca Kniss (8) and Bethany Ross (9) picked up assists.

It took until the second period, but the Black Bears answered back and tied the game at 1-1. Ida Kuoppala scored her eighth goal of the season, beating Emme Ostrander in net for the Ravens. Vendula Pribylova (6) and Ali Beltz (11) picked up assists on the play.

The Black Bears started to take control of the game come the third period. At 6:29 into the period, Maine took their first lead of the night as Ali Beltz scored a power play goal to give the Black Bears a 2-1 lead. Ally Johnson (3) and Taylor Leech (7) picked up assists on the play.

This was the first of four goals Maine would score in the third period. The second goal came with 3:12 remaining in the game, as Celine Tedenby scored her sixth goal of the season. Tereza Vanisova (12) and Ida Press (3) picked up assists. Maine would strike again just 20 seconds later, as Ally Trimper scored her first collegiate goal, increasing the Black Bears lead to 4-1. Morgan Trimper (4) and Ebba Strandberg (2) picked up assists on the play.

Tereza Vanisova would score the Black Bears fifth and final goal of the contest, as she scored her 11th goal of the season with 1:02 remaining in the game. Ida Kuoppala (5) and Taylor Leech (8) picked up assists on the play.

Carly Jackson finished with 14 saves in the contest, as Emme Ostrander finished with 55 saves in the contest.

Maine, who moves to 8-9-2, 4-7-1 on the season, will get some rest over the Holiday break, as they will return to action on Saturday, January 4 and Sunday, January 5 as they travel to Boston University. Both games are scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
