STORRS, Conn. - UConn women's hockey cruised to a dominating victory over the Connecticut Whale, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at the Freitas Ice Forum.
The Huskies capped off preseason play with the three-goal win, continuing to ride the energy and momentum from the Friday night 5-1 rout over Ryerson. UConn outshot the Whale 46-16 and picked up 15 saves in-net from sophomore goaltender Samantha Carpentier-Yelle.
Special teams got the scoring started for the home team. Natalie Snodgrass fed classmate Taylor Wabick for the game's first goal at 8:47.
The Whale briefly tied the game after finding the back of the net just three minutes into the second period, but the Huskies responded with a goal of their own and never looked back.
Freshman Claire Peterson rebounded Morgan Wabick's blocked shot and delivered a strike to give UConn the lead back at 5:44 in the second frame. Danika Pasqua pushed the advantage to 3-1 after scooping up a loose puck and tapping it into the bottom left corner.
Peterson added the finishing touches with another tally in the third, and the Huskies cruised to the 4-1 win.
UConn opens up the 2019-20 regular season with a weekend series at LIU Oct. 4-5.
