STORRS, Conn. - Senior captain Justine Fredette accounted for a goal and an assist on Friday night, as the UConn women's ice hockey team cruised to a decisive 4-1 victory over Rensselaer at the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum.

Four different Huskies (4-3-1, 0-2-1 WHEA) scored against the Engineers (3-5-1, 1-0-1 ECAC), including freshman Natalie Snodgrass, who is now tied with teammate Briana Colangelo for the team lead in goals (4), assists (5), and points (9) this season.

Senior Theresa Knutson and junior Rebecca Lindblad added tallies of their own on Friday, helping UConn to roll in its first action since Oct. 22 at Boston University.

"I think any scoring is good," said head coach Chris MacKenzie when asked about the team's offensive balance. "I was happy to see Rebecca Lindblad get on the board, Natalie, Justine - any goal scoring is important, but it's nice to see we're getting it from different lines."

It took the Huskies nearly 25 minutes to get adjusted against RPI, but once they did, the goals came quickly and often. In the second period, Lindblad and Snodgrass scored just 32 seconds apart - followed by Fredette's goal five minutes later.

For UConn, it was the third time this season that it has recorded at least four goals in a win, including a weekend sweep of Union on Oct. 13 and 14. Senior Annie Belanger was tough between the pipes, making 19 saves on the night.

"In the second period, we made a couple of plays...it was nice to see us convert on a couple of 2-on-1 opportunities," said MacKenzie. "Anytime you can do it right away, scoring a couple close together, you get a lot of momentum there."

The Huskies did not have a hard time finding the back of the net on Friday, or defending their own. UConn's defense, led by juniors Kayla Mee and Jaime Fox, allowed RPI just 20 shots on goal throughout the contest.

"I was happy that we held them in the first two periods to just three and four shots. That's a good defensive effort for us," said MacKenzie. "We want to take this win, learn from it, then focus and get ready for tomorrow against them."

Lindblad broke the scoreless tie with her tally just 4:14 into the second period, burying a shot off a beautiful pass from sophomore Catherine Crawley on a breakaway. Less than a minute later, Snodgrass benefited off a dish from senior Leah Lum to make it 2-0.

Fredette provided a highlight-reel goal at the 9:51 mark, stealing the puck away from an RPI attacker in the UConn zone and taking it down the ice - finishing from the left side of the net for an unassisted goal.

At 5:16 in the third, Knutson sealed the game with a rip from the left side - beating RPI goalie Lovisa Selander to make it 4-0. Mee and Fredette received assists on the tally.

"Coach Mac switches up the lines a lot, but wherever people are put, the chemistry is found instantly," said Snodgrass. "The chemistry we have right now is great and we're excited to keep building it moving forward."

Each team had three penalties in the game, with RPI scoring a power play goal late in the third period after Crawley went to the box for checking.

The Huskies get a rematch with RPI on Saturday afternoon at the Freitas Ice Forum, with puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m. (ET). UConn looks for the weekend sweep.
