WAKEFIELD, Mass. - The Hockey East Association unveiled the 2019-20 women's composite schedule today at the league's annual media day at TD Garden. Each of the 10 member institutions will once again play 27 league contests as well as several featured non-conference tilts and tournaments. Hockey East teams began play Saturday, September 21 when Holy Cross traveled to Colgate for the opening match of 2019-20. Regular season play begins tomorrow, September 27, as Boston College welcomes Merrimack to Conte Forum at 6 p.m. as part of a season-opening, two-game set in Chestnut Hill.
Holy Cross is back in action as well, playing host to Penn State in the first meeting between the two programs this year. Additionally, UConn, Maine and Vermont will host exhibitions on campus that Friday before Providence opens its year with a preseason tilt against New Brunswick on Saturday and New Hampshire draws Franklin Pierce to open their season on Sunday.
For all other teams, the season begins in earnest on October 4 and 5, when each of the 10 programs will compete in regular-season series.
Several special events highlight the season schedule in 2019-20, including the second annual Friendship Series, the first-ever women's college hockey event in Belfast, Northern Ireland that will feature Merrimack and Quinnipiac. The new year will also welcome the latest slate of the Skating Strides initiative, Hockey East's award-winning breast cancer awareness event and fund-raiser.
The Women's Hockey East season will culminate at Merrimack's Lawler Rink, with the 18th annual Women's Hockey East Tournament on March 7-8. Information regarding tickets for the conference championship will come at a later date.
