Junior goaltender Jeremy Swayman made 48 saves for the Black Bears

ORONO, Maine -- Mitchell Fossier scored the game winning goal in the third period to give the University of Maine men's ice hockey team a 1-0 victory over the visiting Providence College Friars.

The two Hockey East rivals skated to a scoreless first and second period. Jeremy Swayman stopped all 18 shots he faced in the opening 20 minutes. The Black Bears' PK unit was flawless on their two opportunities in the frames.

First Goal (#15 Maine 1-0): Mitchell Fossier, the captain, scored the only goal of the Friday night contest. Tim Doherty had his original shot saved by Michael Lackey of Providence. JD Greenway picked up the loose puck and kicked it over to Doherty. The senior turned and fired the puck to Fossier, who did the rest. The 1-0 advantage stood as the Black Bears won the Hockey East match-up.


Notes:

- Jeremy Swayman finished with 48 saves for the Black Bears, while Michael Lackey tallied 23 for the Friars.

- Maine went 0-2 on the power play, as Providence was 0-2 on their man advantages.

- The Black Bears blocked 10 shots as a team.
