LLOWELL, Mass. - Senior forward John Edwardh (Calgary, Alta.) and junior forward Ryan Dmowski (East Lyme, Conn.) scored two goals apiece to lead the UMass Lowell Hockey team to a 5-2 victory again UConn in Hockey East play on Friday evening at the Tsongas Center in front of 5,080 fans.

The River Hawks improve to 7-6-0 overall (4-5-0 HEA) with their third consecutive victory, while the Huskies drop to 3-9-2 overall (2-5-1 HEA) with the loss.

Dmowski sealed the game for the River Hawks with his fourth of the season with just 2:40 left to play.

UConn's Spencer Naas cut the River Hawks' lead to 2-1 just 1:23 into the second frame with his fifth tally of the year, but Edwardh scored his second of the game to make it 3-1 at the six minute mark. Dmowski extended the UMass Lowell lead to 4-1 with 1:27 left in the middle stanza.

Max Kalter scored a shorthanded goal for the Huskies to make it a 4-2 game just 2:40 into the third frame with his fourth goal of the year.

Senior captain Tyler Mueller (Regina, Sask.) notched his seventh and eighth assists on the season to finish with two helpers on the night, while freshman forward Connor Sodergren (Tewksbury, Mass.) also finished the night with a career-high two assists.

UMass Lowell opened the scoring in the game on Edwardh's fourth goal of the season just five minutes into the game on the power play with a wrist shot that beat UConn's Adam Hauska high blocker side. Freshman forward Charlie Levesque(Russell, Ont.) scored just 32 seconds later to give the River Hawks a 2-0 lead on his first collegiate goal for the River Hawks. UMass Lowell outshot the Huskies, 10-4 in the opening period.

Junior goaltender Christoffer Hernberg (Espoo, Finland) amassed 23 saves in his third straight start for the River Hawks, which included 10 second-period saves, he improved to 7-1-0 on the young season. Hauska totaled 19 stops in the losing effort for UConn. Hernberg stopped a penalty shot at 6:18 of the second period on a shot by Benjamin Freeman, after a Mueller holding penalty on a breakaway.

The River Hawks were a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill on the evening.
