HARTFORD, Conn. - The UConn Huskies got a pair of power play goals in the third period from senior Johnny Austin (St. Louis Park, Minn.) and junior Maxim Letunov (Moscow, Russia) to lead the way to a 4-2 win over No. 16 nationally ranked Colgate Friday night from the XL Center.

The Huskies close out the first half of their season winning two-straight and five of the last six to head into the winter break with an 8-11-2 record. Colgate dropped to 8-6-4 with the loss.

UConn got two in the second period from senior Jessie Schwartz (Toronto, Ontario), his sixth-straight game with a point, and junior Joseph Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) to erase Colgate's first period 1-0 lead. The Raiders chipped one in during the closing seconds of the third off the stick of Adam Dauda to send the game to the final stanza tied at 2-2.

The Huskies got a 5-on-3 power play chance at the 13:29 mark and responded with a pair of goals to grab control. Austin provided what would be the game-winner at 13:57 on the two-man advantage and Letunov made it 4-2 with one second to spare on the power play.

Sophomore Adam Huska (Zvolen, Slovakia) stopped 28 shots to collect his eight win of the season. Colgate goaltender Colton Point made 20 saves in the loss. The Huskies killed off all six Raider power play chances.

Letunov finished the night with three points on a goal and two assists while Austin added a helper to his goal for a two-point night. Both sophomore Alexander Payusov (Montreal, Quebec) and freshman Evan Wisocky (Hoboken, N.J.) had two assists in the win.

1st:

The Raiders got on the board first and provided the only scoring in the first period. Senior Evan Peterson shot a pass to rookie Tyler Jeanson into the neutral zone to spark a break-out. Jeanson left the puck for a trailing Racine who snapped a shot through a screen from the top-left circle to beat Huska for a 1-0 lead at 12:25.

2nd:

The Huskies struck for back-to-back goals just 50 seconds apart to grab a 2-1 lead. At 4:00, sophomore Benjamin Freeman (Falmouth, Maine) played the puck off the right half boards and shoveled the puck to Schwartz in the slot. He whipped a shot past Point glove side for his seventh on the season.

UConn made it 2-1 just 50 seconds later on Masonius' first of the season. Sophomore Alexander Payusov (Montreal, Quebec) left the puck for Masonius at the high right point. He took a few strides and put a slap shot past Point, stick side, top-shelf.

Colgate found the equalizer in the closing seconds of the period, making it 2-2 at 19:24. Bobby McMann picked-up a loose puck and fired on Huska who made the pad save. The rebound found a trailing Dauda in the slot who put home the rebound on the empty net, his sixth of the season.

3rd:

UConn got a five-on-three chance when Colgate was called for interference at 12:50 and then a slashing call at 13:39. The Huskies produced the game-winner at just 18 seconds in the two-man chance as Wisocky centered a pass to Austin in the slot and the senior defenseman buried a one-timer through traffic for his third on the season.

The Huskies tacked on another with one second to spare on the power play as Letunov took a pass near the right post from Wisocky in the slot and buried it for his fifth of the season to give the UConn a 4-2 lead.

Colgate got a power play chance with 1:55 left and pulled the goalie for the 6-on-4 chance. The Huskies held the Raiders at bay to seal the win.

Notes:

UConn pulled within down 3-5-0 in the all-time series with Colgate. The Huskies will face-off with teams from the ECAC twice more this season, hosting Quinnipaic on January 2 and at Brown on February 3.

Austin's two-point night gives him nine career multi-point games on his career and six this season. He was also playing tonight against his younger brother Nick, a freshman defenseman on Colgate who has six points this season (3/3).

Letunov's three-point night gives him five-straight games with at least a point, a season-long streak. He ties his career-high with three points and that gives him 24 career multi-point games, six this year.

Wisocky and Payusov both set new career-highs with two assists in the win. For Payusov, it was his fourth multi-point game this year, and the first of Wisocky's career. Schwartz has had a point in career-best six-straight games and has 11 points (7/4) over his last 10 games.
