HARTFORD, Conn. - Boston University's Bobo Carpenter scored three power play goals to lead the No. 7 nationally ranked Terriers to a 6-3 Hockey East win over the UConn Huskies Saturday night at the XL Center. The Huskies fall to 2-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in Hockey East.

BU took three of four points on the weekend and improves to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the league. Carpenter scored a power play goal in each period and tacked on an assist for a four-point night. Patrick Curry tacked on a two goals, both in the first and Brandon Hickey tacked on the other BU tally.

UConn got a power play goal from sophomore Alexander Payusov (Montreal, Quebec), his team-leading sixth goal on the season. Senior Spencer Naas (Minnetonka, Minn.) scored his first on the year while classmate Kasperi Ojantakanen (Helsinki, Finland) had a third period score. Senior Johnny Austin (St. Louis, Minn.) finished with a pair of assists.

BU goaltender Jake Oettinger made 27 stops to record the win. The Terriers held a 32-30 edge on shots, including a 14-6 advantage in the first as the built a 3-0 lead. UConn sophomore Adam Huska (Zvolen, Slovakia) stopped 26 shots in the loss. The Huskies finished just 1-for-6 on the power play.

1st:

The Huskies gave BU a power play just 17 seconds into the game and the Terriers took advantage. Harper fed Carpenter in the slot off the half boards and he shoveled a back-hand attempt past Huska for a 1-0 lead at 1:09.

BU came right back down and made it 2-0 at 1:29. John MacLeod blasted a shot from the left blue line and Curry was set up in front of Huska to get a deflection in for his first on the season.

2nd:

The Huskies chipped away at the BU lead with Payusov scoring his fourth power play goal of the season and sixth overall. Karl El-Mir (Montreal, Quebec) chipped a shot on net in front that Oettinger turned away. Payusov quickly picked the rebound and beat the goaltender on a wrap-around at the left post at 9:49.

Naas picked-up his first on the season at 11:24, cutting the BU lead to 3-2. Defenseman Derek Pratt (Mount Hermon, Mass.) blasted a shot from the point that went wide. The rebound kicked off the boards and a crashing Naas tucked the rebound just inside Oettinger's pad at the right post.

BU answered with their second power play tally at 14:32. Carpenter picked-up his second on the night, burying a rebound off a Chad Krys shot for a 4-2 lead.

3rd:

BU made it 5-2 just 27 seconds in to the third. Hickey snapped a shot past Huska in the slot, his first on the season.

UConn cut back into the lead at 5:18, with Ojantakanen picking-up his second on the season. Austin blasted a shot from the left wing and Ojantakanen picked up the rebound in the slot and beat Oettinger high to the stick side.

BU's Carpenter finished off his hat-trick at 14:46, scoring his third power play goal of the night. Fabbro fired on net from the high point with Carpenter getting a deflection in front, off the post and past Huska for a 6-3 lead.

Notes:

BU leads the all-time series, 5-2-2, and is 2-2-0 all-time at the XL Center. The two teams will meet again in Hartford on February 16.

UConn has fallen behind 3-0 in three games this season and have been outscored 10-3 in the first period on the year.

The Huskies have scored nine power play goals on the season, and have had at least one in five of the six games. Payusov leads the team with four power play goals while Austin picked up his sixth power play point on the year (1g/5g).

Payusov's goal gives the sophomore a point in five-straight games. Austin's two assists give him a team-high eight on the year and he now has four multi-point games this season. Naas notched his first multi-point game on the year with a goal and an assist.
