TEMPE, Ariz. - The UMass Lowell Hockey team was defeated by Arizona State, 4-0 in the series finale on Saturday night at Oceanside Arena in non-conference play.

With the loss, the River Hawks drop to 13-10-0 overall, while the Sun Devils improve to 7-13-4 overall with the victory.

The Sun Devils broke the game open with three second-period goals. ASU's Johnny Walker tallied two goals less than three minutes apart and Anthony Croston added another on the power play with 45.7 seconds left in the middle stanza. The teams skated to a scoreless third period

Joey Raats opened the scoring in the game for the Sun Devils with 1:52 left in the first period with his second tally of the season. The River Hawks outshot ASU, 11-7 in the opening frame.

Junior goaltender Christoffer Hernberg (Espoo, Finland) made 16 saves in his 16th start of the season for the River Hawks. Joey Daccord recorded 28 stops in his seventh win of the season for ASU.

UMass Lowell outshot Arizona State, 28-20 in the game, which included a 13-2 advantage in the third period.

The River Hawks return to action on Friday, January 19th for a two-game Hockey East series at Vermont. Game time from Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington, Vt. is 7 p.m.
