HAMDEN, Ct. - The No. 11/12 Boston University men's ice hockey team made a statement to close out the first half of its season, earning a 4-1 road victory over previously unbeaten and No. 2-ranked Quinnipiac on Saturday evening at High Point Solutions Arena.

Playing in his home state, junior Robbie Baillargeon scored the game-winner and added an assist while senior Matt Lane scored twice, answering an early Quinnipiac goal before sealing the victory with an empty-netter.

Senior goaltender Sean Maguire turned in a 36-save performance to help the Terrier enter the holiday and exam break with a record of 9-6-3. The Bobcats, who got a goal from junior Sam Anas just 6:22 into the game, move to 15-1-2 on the year.

BU's penalty kill was a perfect 5-for-5 on the night, including two penalties in the third period. Quinnipiac's first opportunity with the man advantage came after its early goal, but the Terriers did an impressive job preventing the home team from extending its lead.

Lane got the equalizer at 14:42 of the first off a perfect feed by freshman Jordan Greenway from behind the net. Greenway, who possessed the puck while curling around around the left corner before finding Lane at the foot of the left circle, extended his point streak to five games.

The Terriers got the go-ahead goal off a rush early on in the middle stanza. Freshman Charlie McAvoy got the puck out of the Quinnipiac zone before pushing the puck up to Baillargeon, who backhanded a puck past Quinnipiac netminder Michael Garteig as he skated through the left circle.

A big insurance goal came from the stick of Bobo Carpenter, as the freshman turned and fired a wrister from the top of the right circle that sailed over Garteig's right shoulder at 7:29 of the third. Baillargeon assisted on the play.

Lane sent the strong contingent of BU fans home happy when closed out the victory with an empty-netter at 19:40 with an assist from sophomore Brien Diffley.

The Terriers will take nearly a four-week break from their schedule before returning to action on Thursday, Jan. 7, at No. 7 Harvard.
