BOSTON - The No. 9/10 Boston University men's ice hockey team tallied at least one goal in each period and got a shared shutout from senior Sean Maguire and sophomore Connor LaCouvee to earn a 4-0 home victory over Merrimack on Friday evening at Agganis Arena.

Maguire's left skate blade fell out in the early stages and LaCouvee stopped the only shot he faced in 5:49 between the pipes before Maguire returned and finished the night with 27 saves. Since LaCouvee was in net when the Terriers notched the game-winner, he improved his record to 7-3-3.

Senior Matt Lane had his fourth three-point effort in the past 10 games, scoring a goal and adding two assists.

Junior Robbie Baillargeon opened the scoring after being the beneficiary of some slick passing across the Merrimack zone. Freshman Brien Diffley found senior Lane, who quickly set up Baillargeon at the top of the left circle, where he buried his fifth tally of the season at 7:06 of the opening stanza.

Late the second, senior Danny O'Regan cut through the defense to pot an unassisted shorthanded goal that doubled the lead.

Lane put the game away when he converted on a rush with 8:03 left in regulation. Senior Ahti Oksanen's 50th career goal secured the 4-0 scoreline and tied him with Lane for the team lead in goals with 14.

The win secured a season split with the Warriors, as the Terriers dropped a 4-3 road contest back on Oct. 30.

The Terriers will return to the ice on Monday (Feb .1) when they face Northeastern - winners of six straight - in the second game of the 64th Beanpot semifinals at TD Garden. The game, which will be broadcast live by NESN, is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
