DURHAM, N.H. - Warren Foegele (Unionville, Ontario) recorded a goal and two assists while Jay Camper (Rocky River, Ohio) recorded a goal and an assist, and the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team withstood a three-goal, third-period comeback bid from second-ranked Boston University to post a 4-3 Hockey East Association victory Saturday night at the Whittemore Center Arena.

UNH, which snapped BU's seven-game winning streak, earned a weekend split and improved to 11-17-2, 6-11-1 in Hockey East. The first-place Terriers slipped to 19-5-4, 13-3-2 HEA.

Shane Eiserman (Newburyport, Mass.) and Jamie Hill (Glassboro, N.J.) also scored for New Hampshire, which built a 4-0 lead through two periods. Danny Tirone (Trumbull, Conn.) turned aside 31 shots to improve his record to 6-4-0. Boston U goaltender Matt O'Connor, who was pulled at 9:32 of the second period after surrendering three goals on 17 shots, suffered the loss to fall to 16-4-3.

The Wildcats seized a 1-0 lead at 2:06 of the first period on Eiserman's fourth goal of the year. Camper dealt a pass to the freshman, who worked his way in front and beat O'Connor for the backhand goal. Camper was credited with his second assist of the season.

UNH's lead increased to 2-0 at 17:09 of the opening period when an off-balance Cameron Marks (North Vancouver, British Columbia) kept the puck in the Terrier zone at the right point and threw it in the front of the net. Hill redirected it past O'Connor for his second goal, Marks tallied his eighth assist, and Jason Salvaggio (Hanson, Mass.) added his second assist.

Tirone made 10 saves in the opening period, while O'Connor stopped seven of the nine shots he faced.

Foegele built the lead to 3-0 on a power-play goal, his fifth, at 9:32 of the second period. Just eight seconds into the man advantage, Matt Willows (Congers, N.Y.) fired a shot from the left circle that ricocheted off O'Connor's pad and landed on the waiting stick of Foegele in the right circle. The left-winger snapped it past the netminder to end O'Connor's night. Willows and Brett Pesce (Tarrytown, N.Y.) assisted on the tally.

Terrier backup goalie Connor LaCouvee surrendered the fourth UNH goal at 11:12 of the second. Foegele stole the puck just outside the BU blue line, forged into the zone along the left wing and centered to Camper, who buried it in the upper-righthand corner of the net for his first goal of the year and a 4-0 lead.

Matt Grzelcyk struck for two goals in a 14-second span of the third period to slice the Wildcats' lead in half. His third goal of the year, at the 5:27 mark, came off a deflection in front of Tirone, who was screened on the play. A lengthy video review confirmed the goal, which was assisted by Jack Eichel, his 31st, and Doyle Somerby, his fourth.

Grzelcyk's fourth goal of the season came on a clean snipe from the left wing that beat Tirone inside the near post at 5:41 to cut UNH's advantage to 4-2. Evan Rodrigues secured the primary assist, his 29th, and John MacLeod added a secondary assist, his sixth.

The Terriers drew within 4-3 at 12:15 of the third when Rodrigues deposited a MacLeod pass into the net from the bottom of the left circle.

BU pulled LaCouvee with 1:40 remaining but was unable to pot the equalizer.

Boston U outshot UNH, 34-31, including 12-9 during its third-period rally.

The Wildcats went 1-for-5 on the power play and kept the Terriers scoreless (0-for-3) on the PP.

UNH plays a home-and -home series against the University of Connecticut next weekend (Feb. 20-21). The Wildcats and Huskies tangle Friday night at the XL Center in Hartford. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
