Junior forward Lauren Martin scored the game-winning goal for the Wildcats

DURHAM, N.H. -- Tamara Thiérus (Saint-Jérôme, Quebec) scored two second-period goals to propel the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team rally and defeat the No. 8 Boston University Terriers, 4-3, at the Whittemore Center on Saturday evening.

The Wildcats were down two goals heading into the second period but scored three unanswered goals and answered BU's game-tying third period goal just 32 seconds later to record the win.

UNH goaltender Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) made 28 saves. BU goalie Kate Stuart recorded a total of 26 saves.

New Hampshire (1-3-0) is scheduled to return to action Dec. 11-12 at home vs. Maine. BU (1-1-0) recorded a 31-30 shot advantage.


FIRST PERIOD SUMMARY

- The 'Cats held the Terriers from scoring early and killed off the only penalty of the period.

- Clare O'Leary capitalized on an awkward bounce and netted the puck to give BU a 1-0 lead at 18:35.

- Less than a minute later, Jesse Compher found the back of the net for the Terriers and extended their lead to 2-0 at 19:18.


SECOND PERIOD SUMMARY

- Thiérus sent one home at 1:35 to cut the BU lead in half. Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ontario) fed Thiérus a pass in the slot and she skated it right to the front of the net and buried it. Emily Rickwood (Brantford, Ontario) was credited with the secondary assist.

- Thiérus scored her second goal of the game at 8:32 tying the game at 2 when she snapped the puck to the top left corner of the net. Kelly sent a cross ice pass to Thiérus, who was able to bury it. Brianna Legros (New Liskeard, Ontario) also tallied an assist.

- Midway through the period, Boutilier made fantastic back-to-back saves to keep the game tied at 2.

- Jada Christian (Caledon East, Ontario) gave the 'Cats the go-ahead goal at 17:10 after she backhanded the puck to the bottom left side of the net. Brianna Brooks (Whitby, Ontario), with the initial shot on goal, and Ciara Wall (Hampton, N.H.) posted assists.


THIRD PERIOD SUMMARY

- Julia Nearis netted a power-play goal at 6:43 to tie the game at 3-3.

- Lauren Martin (Cambridge, Ontario) knocked the puck in off of Emily Rickwood's (Brantford, Ontario) rebound at 7:15. Martin's eventual game-winning goal allowed UNH to regain the lead, 4-3.

- BU's Stuart went to the bench with just under a minute left in exchange for an extra attacker, but the Wildcats' defensive effort did not allow another shot to get through to Boutilier.


UNH NOTEBOOK

- Thiérus recorded three goals and one assist for four points this weekend. She has scored a goal each of the past three games and has tallied a point all four games this season.

- Legros recorded her first career point with the second-period assist.

- Kelly recorded her first career multiple-point game with two assists. She finished with three assists in the two-game series.

- Rickwood matched her career high of two assists.

- UNH's first line scored three of the four goals. In addition to Thierus' two strikes, Martin netted one.


SERIES NOTEBOOK

- UNH fell to BU on Friday night in a tight 2-1 matchup.

- With tonight's win, UNH broke BU's win streak of three games against the 'Cats.
